What part is this ontop of engine? Cause of evap codes?
Hello, below are a few pictures of a plastic piece on the driver's side of the engine that has snapped off some time ago. It is a small box with and arrow on the top, right next to the engine hoist hook and oil cap. Note that I did try botching it together with gasket maker and a brass tube piece I found. It is also the reason for the metal hose clamp you see. Anyone know what part this is so I can replace it?
Also below is a screenshot of the current check engine light codes that I have. Would these be related to that broken piece?
Thanks.

Part # 23818-46110. Bell's got it for under $17. My '98 doesn't have this bit. Partsfan has a decent diagram, leads me to believe that it's a version of the EVAP system from 8-98 through the end of ls400 production.
edit - And evidently lived on into the ls430 years too. A good drawing as to how it's hooked up appears in the link that Bradland supplied at #3.

California? California cars have a unique ECU due to emissions. I think EGR\Air pump. Perhaps there is more equipment, I'm not sure. I'm not super familiar with the differences.
I mention so you can keep it in mind when diagnosing.

Bradland, I think CLLEXUSS nailed it as the fuel vapor feed pipe. It connects into the VSV via a short tube but the plastic connector tube broke off the feed pipe and needs replacing. I wonder what's inside the plastic case?
Thanks for the link to the ls430 post on the VSV cleaning though. More stuff to do.

It's just an empty plastic vessel. From what I understand it provides space for any vacuum inconsistencies (surges).

as everyone said, yes it's related to EVAP and will cause codes if it's open like that. it's pressurized and will sense a leak (small or large) when the VSV opens, throwing a CEL.
once you fix this and clear the code, you cannot just bring it to the smog shop directly. it will take a few drive cycles (at least 2) for the EVAP to "complete" before you can smog the car. ask me how i know!

So I drop in to the Cartune NZ YouTube channel and see that there's nothing new and decide to do a bit of browsing through the videos and look what I found!
It's a ls430 that he's working on, same EVAP System and VSV and black housing.
