Question Windshield wind noise @ 80MPH

Howdy everyone, I'm down here in Houston TX, where we pretty much drive as fast as traffic permits all the time. I bought a low mileage 1995 LS a couple of months ago, and aside from it not being as quick off the line as the newer ones, my only complaint is that the windshield (at least I think that's where the noise originates from) seems to whistle. This starts at about 78 MPH and goes on pretty much from there to 100. I'll need a longer piece of unpoliced highway to check any faster. Anybody else have this complaint?

If your having wind noise and you think its coming from the windshield then it had to have been replaced. If its an original one then its not from that area. I have an original one in my 96 and have no noise out of the ordinary driving 80ish mpg.l

1)Make sure to check both the drivers door and passengers door weather stripping to make sure its still in good shape. Noise could be coming from there.

2) As well as the weather stripping around the moonroof.

I have a 1990 Cressida with the same ailment. It's the original windshield in that car too. It comes from the piece of trim that connects the bead at the center-top of the windshield.

If it occurs while I'm in the car, I can push on the center top of the windshield and the pitch of the whistle changes!

The dealer said there was a TSB about this noise for my car (the Cressida), and a fix for it. I'm not sure what the details are for the lexus . . . but they are similar beasts. I never bothered actually DRIVING to the dealer to talk about actually FIXING it, I just cursed about it for the past five years :-)

Sharp 96, It's the original, I checked yesterday. Doors are tight too.
Alice, yeah, Old cressidas were great cars too, but my 95's top piece of molding is seamless...no center clip??
I'll Keep Looking. I think it must be the area in the top corners, gonna fill them up with black windshield rubber cement.
Just as an interesting sidebar, I stupidly locked my keys inside yesterday, AAA couldn't open the car in 3 hours (the length of time it took my wife to bring the spare) Doors are da*n tight! I carry a money clip so no convenient place to carry plastic spare, but my old Lincoln had numbers on the door. Would any body else agree that this may be a Lexus shortcoming? The number pad I mean, not my "Blonde Moment."

I recently had my windshield replaced, and insisted on only a OEM Lexus replacement. The glass is etched with Lexus or Toyota name on the lower driver side. My mechanic told me that the OEM glass from Toyota is thicker and harder. I have also read about much of the auto glass in this country is now coming from China and is crap for quality. Also don't forget that the windshield adhesive is very critical for safety reasons, and retaining the glass in an accident. There have been folks ejected out the windshield, when it popped out with a rear end colision. My advice is to always use OEM glass, or PPG glass which is also very good.

Could actually be the sunroof. After closing the sunroof from the tilt position, I used to get a whistle coming into the car. I would then have to open the sunroof and then close it (not tilt).

For some reason, that would shut the sunroof tighter than from the tilt position and eliminate the noise.

Give it a shot...good luck
