Help: 91 LS400 vibrations from the back
hey, my 91LS is experiencing some problem.. it happens randomly, i'm not too sure about the cause of it.. when i reach speeds of like 45MPH the car starts to feel like it's vibrating and the wheels are bouncing.. the vibrations come from the back and they're pretty intense.. and they don't go away by themselves.. they seem to get more intense as i break and go away when i come to a stop..
i read wheel vibrations are caused when your wheels need balancing.. could it be something else.. ball joints, rear brakes locking.. which make the wheels bounce?
any help appreciated.. thanks

Rear Trailing Arm Bushings
Hi,
I recently had the same problems and changed my rear trailing arms bushings (the end of the bar pointing to the back of back of the car). Actually almost all members have changed that bushings out at one time or another. Location of them are right next to the knuckle. Check those out. They are probably all worn out like mine were. Good luck.

TRY THE EASIEST ROUTE FIRST!!!!
Are you tires worn out? Get new ones.
Are they balanced? Balance them.
If the shake when you brake it's probably warped rotors. Get them turned.
If none of these fix it THEN go into more extensive repairs. Most likely is one of those culprits though!

Hey, the tires are not that worn out.. but yes i guess i could rotate them and see if it makes it better.. i bought the car about a month ago and had the rotors and the brake pads changed.. so i don't think they could've gotten warped just yet? as for the balancing.. i should get it done.. i know my wheel alignment is wayyy off so i have to steer according to it, which isn't a problem.. but would that mean my tires need to get balanced too.. if the problem still persists, i'll look into replacing the bushings..
en.. how much did it cost you to replace your bushings?
thanks for the help guys

As J mentioned, get your alignment and balancing done first. As I said earlier when I saw those bushings that were almost completely gone, I was shocked! I used the polyurethane bushings from ADUS. As I remember I believe they were like $65 per set of L+R. I had my bushing done together with other stuff. I would the most would be $100, but I can't be sure. These bushings are not like very difficult to get to. I also use grease from Energy Suspension. I buy extra for other lube or bushings jobs. They are like $15 per small tub. This stuff is great and the polyurethane bushings should require better grease. You can get the bushing at Carson's. BTW, in that trailing arm there is the front end (pointing to the front of the car) which has bushings as well. It seems that bushings doesn't not get worn much. Just FYI in case you go bushings crazy...LOL. Good luck.

well, after a couple of days.. the noise seems to have gone away.. by itself :S:S that's always good right? lol.. but i noticed the rear passenger is sitting lower than the driver's rear.. i guess that could be a hint to what was causing the problem? and instead of making a noise anymore.. it just dropped the car..

hehehe.. so it might be the shocks eh?
well i guess it's time to get after-market ones and then eventually get tanabes for that 1.8" drop and stock.ish ride that is.. if the shocks are the item causing the problem.. would bad shocks result in vibrations? :S

Hi,
All I know is that when my shock was leaking the rubber boot inside was also worn really bad. So because of the boot separated it made noises/vibrations due to the parts of the rubber boot hitting against itself.

Hey guys, my vibrations have some how mysteriously disappeared.. just yesterday, i left my hand brake on by accident.. drove a 100M or so.. and it was vibrating bad.. wasn't going away.. realized my hand brake was up.. and when i disengaged it.. the vibrations went away.. so im lead to believe the vibrations were being caused by the hand brake being engaged even when there was no indicator light for it
