Fender mods vs. rim size/width/offset
We don't have very many rim/tuning options on Guam (where I'm from). I've been looking on the forums and have seen the range of offsets/rim sizes folks have been running. However, I haven't seen very much guidance on what fender mods need to be done as rim width/offset increase.
My question is: How much fender work needs to be done to comfortably run 18x8.5/9.5, 19x8.5/9.5 or 20x8.5 (all +35 or +38 offset) w/o major fender contact? Rolling 'em flat, or rolling + pulling fender, etc?
A bit of background: I have a bone-stock 2LS ('97) that I just bought. Pretty much all i've messed around with are "ricer" imports (celica, integra etc). Looking to go bippu eventually, incl. air susp.
One of the local rim shops discouraged me from proceeding w/ a 19x8.5/9.5 +35 setup. Upon test fit I loved the look of the rim sitting directly beneath my fender but sure as heck did not want to keep buying tires as they said would end up happening due to fender contact.
Was the wheel tech just being lazy (it was near closing time), or would the width/offset still cause major rubbing at stock height?

8.5+35 will require rolling in the front if you run a 245 series tire (which is the minimum i would run on an LS with that offset)
rear will be very close with a 8.5 +35 will be fine, 9.5 MIGHT require a roll.
fitment will be same regardless of 18 or 19" as long as O.D. of tires are the same.

At least a 245 on an 8.5 PD? Forget that, that's too large imho. Look into running a 225 or 235 on an 8.5. It'll sit flush and you'll get optimal tire protection without mushrooming the tire with a fatty set-up.
You shouldn't have any problems fitting 19x8.5 19x9.5 as I ran 19x9 19x9.5 on my 1LS with minor fender rolling at most.
