LS400 - painting the door handle...
Hi all, this is my first post here but I've been reading the forums for a little while now. Anyway, my issue is this: I've got a White 1991 Lexus LS400 and my driver's side door handle just completely cracked in half. I went to a couple auto wrecking places today and was able to find a used but in good condition handle but it's silver instead of white, which is gonna look damn tacky if I put it on like this. I want to paint it but I'm not even sure where to start as I haven't done any auto painting before. Where do I find paint that will match the car and do I just paint over what's there or do I strip the old paint off? Any help would be awesome!

You'll need to get the paint matched and sprayed on then cleared. Lexus uses a 3-system paint...so hopefully that answers your question.

I've had the same problem... only I can't seem to find one in Flint Grey Mica if my life depended on it. It seems that EVERYONE's driver's door handle breaks, and so they're really hard to find, and really expensive if you do find them. Hell no I'm not paying $80+ for a goddamn used door handle.

I got my used 1991 LS400 handle for $30. Can I take this someplace and have them match the paint? My LS is the pearl white color which appears like it might be hard to match...

Got a part number for the Flint Grey Mica?
I am to the point of not caring anymore and giving in. Hey, even if I'm broke, I can hustle some stuff if need be... I just want my Lexus to be back to how it was before it started falling apart.
Goddammit... why must everything be so expensive? We should start a charity for me or something. "Donate to the poor high-school kid so he can fix his Lexus".

I can say from personal experience that I have ordered two outside door handles for my '90 ls400 from Park Place. Both were reasonably priced (the prices are listed on the site) and both came PERFECTLY painted and match my existing flint gray metallic code 180. I just specified the color when ordering.
The rear driver's handle took a couple weeks to arrive and the driver's door handle about a week.
Considering they come painted perfectly and match, I didn't see any reason to bother trying to match a used (and possibly weaker handle) to my existing paint.
Good luck.
