99 with 76k, when to change timing belt?
I know its still a ways off, but the car is almost 10 years old (i'm the 2nd owner). I was wondering if it'd be okay to wait til 90k to get it changed, or to change it anytime before that?
on a side note....
the body panels on this car are stiff! i was caught in a hail storm today but I managed to make it into a car wash. The car was exposed for a good 5-7 min before I could get it covered. No damage whatsoever. My girlfriend's Camry and her brother's Del Sol, however, weren't so lucky

Some people say 90K, some say 60K. If the previous owner didn't get it changed at 60K, I suggest you do it now. The car is ten years old and there's always a change the belt might snap from old age.

Sure, Toyota builds parts that last very long when compared to other manufacturers but why take the chance? Although I went 110k for my first belt change I don't believe I would go much beyond that. I remember the belt had no signs of wear but I was glad I changed it. I just did my second belt change at around 205k and again it showed no signs of wear.

^ exactly, why put it off when it's going to have to be done anyway? It's either getting it done early or having the chance of it snapping, which I never heard of happening on 1UZs, but it happens on other cars.

I had a similar decision recently. My '98 LS 400 had 81,500 miles when I bought it last November. I was up to 86,500 miles last month and decided it was time to spend the money. I also was replacing the motor mounts, and the PS pump was leaking when my car was put up on the lift, so that was replaced as well.
Not a cheap visit for sure as I had a lot of work done and the car is good to go until 200,000 miles except for brakes and oil changes.
One thing to keep in mind is the TB is not exposed to sunlight (and should not be exposed to oil and the like), so I'd base it on miles.
Good luck,
Eddie
