Dyno of my 99 LS400 / Wild Ride in a 450whp EVO
Hey everyone,
Just went to CBRD SpeedFactory in York PA where my friend takes his EVO IX which has about 300whp last night.
Got my car dyno'd on their Mustang Dyno (the lower reading one that puts a load on the vehicle unlike Dynojet for those who know about dynos)
But first Chad from CBRD was trying to convince my friend to upgrade his car with the parts from this other clients car who was upgrading even bigger. I went out for a ride in this car with the Chad and my friend. It dyno'd about 450 on their Mustang dyno recently and man for my first time ever in a turbo car really with any real power (not counting a talon TSI stock or two I been in which doesn't compare) it was just nuts.. through the 1st-3rd I was pinned back in the seat and thought I was going to die, remember I am not used to anything other than my LS which is the fastest car I ever been in (I don't get out much lol).
Anyways I took a few short vids of the dyno which I'll post later maybe depending on their size.. otherwise heres the link to the dyno sheet.
1999 LS400, Muffler Delete, Jbrady Mod (which doesn't really do much on a dyno)

The one top guy who was showing some customers around right when my car was getting dyno'd said.. "Well it is probably the quietest car we ever had on this dyno". That made me LOL.
For some reason he only took it up to max 5600 or so rpm on the sheet. I am thinking the HP figure might be down about 4-5hp maybe so otherwise there ya go.
It might be low figures I don't know since I found a bunch of GS400 dyno sheets via search function on Dynojets which is different and none that I can think of that dyno'd their 98-00 LS400 with a sheet via the search.
Enjoy

Thanks for posting your pull results.
The mods are small increments and for the most part, probably not obvious. Like OC'ing your pooter, 10MHz is minimal but add up enough tweaks and it may be nice. Now if you can bump it 25-50 HP, I think you'll notice it. 1-5 HP...nah.

Some things to remember:
1. Did you make one and only run on the dyno? I've had GM F-bodies/LSx cars on a dyno make bigger numbers on the second and third run due to timing increases, etc. As long as the heat soak doesn't set in.
2. You're lacking about 500rpm on the chart. Horsepower was still building and its peak was the point the dyno session ended.
3. As you stated, it is a Mustang Dyno so the peak numbers are lower than you would typically see on a Dynojet. ie an LS2 GTO will produce about 330hp at the wheels on a Mustang Dyno and about 350hp at the wheels on a Dynojet.

1. The shop owner did the runs 4 in all for $75. The first 2 were tuning runs because he isn't used to dynoing automatics (shop runs mostly EVO's, STI's, Audi's AWD manuals etc) due to them not staying in gear and dropping down.. apparently you have to rev to 4000 before going WOT on the dyno with the lexus autos otherwise they kick down. The last 2 runs are whats on the dyno sheet.
2. I didn't get a chance to ask the owner about the 400-500rpm shortage on the sheet.. like I mentioned in my post I am "guessing" 4-5 more whp maybe if it went up to 6000 where the LS supposedly makes its peak 290 crank.
3. Yes the whole dynojet / mustang thing that some people tend to get confused. I have read on G35/Corvette/Ford etc forums through google depending on a bunch of things the % difference between dynojet and mustang is generally 10-15%. So I figure my numbers on a dynojet would be similar to other stock GS400's that I have seen dynojet dynos for.
Also I didn't ask many questions regarding what gear he was in I just know he had the PWR ETC mode on when I left the shop so I assume he had that on. Traction control was left on and didn't cause a problem. Hood was closed and just a fan in front of the vehicle. I plan on going back in the early spring after a full catback exhaust and my suspension mods are done to get a new reading using the same dyno so hopefully the #'s will at least go up so I don't get totally depressed haha.
