Don't guess , have the cam cover pulled and the belt inspected ,if it looks fine you can go another 10 000 before checking again.

I have almost 125,000 miles on the second (or third?) timing belt on my car and it still looks fine.

Is it the 90,000 miles service that Lexus replaces the timing belt? I think it is, because on my 98 I think that is when I changed it.

It is around 90,000 miles interval. I had mine changed at 105,000 miles and it still looked new. I now have 182,000 miles and plan to change it again at 200,000.

This has been a funny topic for me.

When I bought my 96 with 130K on it, I did some research and found LOTS of conflicting information.... even at the dealership (shocker!)

However I did finally find out that it's every 90,000 miles, not 60. The LS I bought had ALL of it's service done at the dealership so I got a print out of everything that's ever been done to it and it had its first belt change at 90k.

Like some previous posters have said, the belt can probably go 100k+ if you drive it nice.

i wouldnt risk anything 90k mi.+ on a 2LS since if the belt snaps ur ****ed.

2LS 1UZ is an interference motor, unlike 1st gen. so if belt breaks the piston will make love to the valves and your royally done.

change it at 180, ur safe, if the TB snaps on the 1st gen the car will just stop running and wont start. no mech. engine damage tho u may have a busted up cam cover if the belt breaks will a load on it.

cost varies, i DIY most stuff aside from trans and wheel/tire mount+alignment so it would only be parts for me. iirc LMS quoted me ~1000-1200 incl. all the parts+seals and labor when i asked a few months ago.

Default 1998 LS400 64k miles, dealer says Timing belt should be replaced???

I took my 98 LS400 with 64k miles to the dealer today for an oil change and asked what it will cost to replace the timing belt and water pump when the car reaches 90k miles. His coment was since the car is nine years old, I shouldn't wait until 90k miles. I believe he was serious and not just trying to sell me the repair job. My brother-in-law has a 99 RX300 with 58k and is wondering the same thing.

What are the thought of you people.
