whine in the morning when car is cold
On my '95 LS400 with 144,000 miles, I am getting a whine in themorning when the car is cold. (kinda loud) (The AC is off) It goes up and down when I accelerate, and this morning for the first time it stuck around for a bit during idle. Are we talking alternator here? I just had to put in a new battery and it was less than 2 years old, so I have fears... The shop that put in the battery said everything else tested out at 100%. I feared it was the alternator then too. I had the 120K service done a while ago and got a new belt, timing belt, motor mounts, front exhaust gasket connectors, aside for the standard stuff.
One other clue is I was thinking about the Power Steering pump, only because I lost that at about 120K on my old '91 LS400. I like this one best and have no reason to sell, so want to keep it in tip top shape. Any thoughts from the galery? in 140k miles it has never failed me... don't want it to start now!
Thanks a million.

Could also be your alternator as you mentioned.

Taking the car in tonight to the dealer. e is concerned about the timing belt which presumably was done at 90k but I don't remember. With 145k now it aught to be looked at anyway. Just money, right? :-) I'll keep you all posted.

Answer = $1,480.00 for new timing belt, water pump, pully's and such. Only money right? LOL
question 2... I need to do my breaks now as the light just came on. That light costs $70.00 for the new sensor to turn off the damnable light in the dash. Can it be bypassed or replaced for less?
thanks.

So, was the whine a bad water pump?
If your brake light comes on you need new pads and probably a new sensor ( only if the tip of the sensor is worn out).
Also, that dealer you're taking your car to is ripping you off. They didn't have to redo the entire job.

You can leave the sensor out and the light won't come on. But keep in mind you won't know when the pads are wearing thin and risk the chance of having to replace the drums. I suggest getting the new sensor. It's only money right?
