I was driving my 1992 LS400 down the freeway today when I heard a soft, high-pitch hiss from the driver's side front of the car, as if something was decompressing. Then my dash lights all lit up and I lost my power steering. Now the car won't start. Does anyone have any ideas about what happened and what to do about it?

you likely broke the serpentine (main drive) belt, check that first, although the car should really still start, unless the alternator not charging has revealed an already very weak battery

does it turn over strongly?

Yeah like LS said it sounds like your belt snapped or came loose. Did the car shut off immediately or were you able to continue driving with hard steering?
