Longest you've gone on your oil?
How long have any of you gone on your oil?
This was unintentional as I was going to change the oil back in Jan..however I injured myself, but anway... At present I have 9,75X on the Mobil 1 5-30. I'll get this one analyzed ...any recco's on places to send a sample?
I've read of owners changing at 10K and in higher increments of 5K.
Oops...meant to put this in the Maintenance section...help?

Not that I don't want to change oil, timing put me in a BAD position. With all the trips to the doc, it added up quickly. I've been reading a variety of oil articles and while some may have excessive milage on thier oil, it is not a thing I wanted to test.
I'm going to send an oil sample to Blackstone Labs for analysis. This will allow me to see how the Lex engine is relative to some other results I've come across. Can't tell by looking at it, yet it looks the same now as it did at roughly 4K miles. I may consider cutting the filter open to check it as well.
By comparison, I let some dino oil go over the 5K mile mark and it was not pretty. Very dark and obviosuly not very viscious.

My friend changes the oil on his '99 CLK430 every 10K for the past 130K at the dealership (synthetic of course), and his Benz is just fine. (Mechanically anyhow minus the biweekly check engine light for a faulty sensor or two ) Last month it racked up to over 13K, and the dealership said the engine was just fine.
Now if you were on Dino oil, chances are your engine might have sustained some above average wear and tear depending on how you drive, air temperature in your area, etc. As long as you go with Mobile 1 synthetic, your fine, just don’t go over 7K again

I spent a little more on my 2004 LS than I wanted (couldn't wait for the new GS) and so it really needs to last me, prolly over 150K miles.
I talked to the service advisor at my dealer, who I've been seeing for 5+ years, and he said they have LS's with over 200K miles from 5K oil changes and dino oil.
Can that really be right? I wanted to go 3750, but it's hard to argue with that kind of recommendation.
So maybe I should go with an oil change every 5K miles and synthetic? Or just follow his recommendation and go 5K miles and regular oil?

Sorry, I forgot I was reading old threads....
Just use synthetic, and change every 6K, 5k if you don’t mind taking it to the dealership sooner, but 6K will not harm your engine at all. Just don’t use synthetics while breaking in your engine. Start using synthetic when you reach about 5K, and I particularly recommend using it if you live in a very cold/very hot environment.
Good luck with your '04.
