Default 2009 Lexus RX 350 speaker size

After searching a mountain of thread nothing I came across specifically showed the size of various speaker location. So I'll attempt to do that here in the hope someone looking to modify their system has an idea of what they are working with without resorting to a blind buy.

This morning I had a few minutes so decided to see how to go about taking the mids off near the dash. You'll need a plastic automotive "prybar" or other strong but non marking too to remove the cover. It's tabs are pretty strong located on either corner of the cover in the front.
Gently wedge the prybar in the corner and pry upwards.
Then you'll see two 10mm bolts. The clearance for the bolt nearest the windshield is nil so use a smaller wrench to get that one.

Once off you can clearly see it's a 3" midrange and not a 2.5 as Cruthfield would have you believe. Depth is easily close to 5". Look closely you can see the blower.

Another resource for finding quality 3" midrange seemed to be either
http://www.parts-express.com/cat/mid...ge-speakers/16
Or
http://www.madisound.com/speakerparts/midrange.php
As for the tweeter, access to that via the front grill will get you nowhere. One has to take off the pillar which I'm not comfortable doing as there is an airbag there. But the tweeter is about an 1"-1.25".
That's it for now. Hopefully I'll get to the 6x9 doors this weekend.
Have a great new year!

Couple more shots.I like the fact this has a see through dust cover as well as a sponge surround. Nice details you normally wouldn't find a stock set up. Once you dial in this speaker for time alignment it sounds fantastic.

I had some time on my hands this morning and decided to sound deaden the on passenger side door. To remove is as follows.

Remove pop up button on the inside door near the side view mirror.
Remove stealth door handle cover that is in turn hiding the screw
Remove felt within the door handle to access the screw
Gently lift the automatic window switch/ door lock tray upwards. Disconnect switches. Be careful doing this as they all require you to pinch down a lock that's holding it in. Do NOT forcefully yank or pull.

Next post....

Once all that has been removed gently start at the bottom by removing the tabs that hold the door in place and work your way around to the top. Once you do it takes a good amount of pressure to take the door off by lifting it upwards. You can hit the bottom of the door or use steady pressure. What your fighting are metal pinchers that have clamped unto the inside sill of the door.

The photos as you can see re from the underside of the door as identified by the courtesy lights. To get a better visual of the entire door make a mental note of all the tabs that go around the door.

Finally the speaker. Measuring 6x9 the openings on the door are as follows.
See pics.
The depth is in fact 2.5" to the window when it's rolled down all the way.
From one green screw tab to the next is 8".

Here are some quick pjcs of the sound deadening. I did the inside of the door or the internal part the outer and door card. Followed by an extra layer of black closed cell foam over the hush mat. Have to do the other side next week. I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have. Take care and thanks for the read.

Hey, your welcome. If the mods allow here is a link to further sound deaden your vehicle. I did a step by step of the back cargo area.

rxonmymind,

Just curious if you know the details on the rest of your car speakers.

I'm looking to upgrade the system on my wife's 2008, non ML,non DVD, with navigation package RX.

I can't believe how hard it is to come up with seemingly simple info on speaker size and location of various cars. I went through the same BS with my Infiniti FX35. Crutchfield is often incomplete or wrong.

This is all I know so far.

- 3" midranges at the very front of the dash where the windshield meets the dash. Clearance is about 5" (as per your info)

- A pillar tweeters. Not sure of the size or depth.

- Front door woofers: Not sure of the size or depth, but looks to be 6X9 based on the grill shape.

- Rear doors: Not sure of the size or depth, but I assume they are 5" round drivers or slightly larger. Grill holes do look smaller than the front door. Not sure if they are midbass only or co-axial.

Once I can track down solid info, I'm planning to buy new drivers and have my installer add them along with dynamat. I'll be giving my wife my existing Audison prima 8.9 signal processor and integrated 8 channel amp. She will also be getting a 10 inch subwoofer box and an Audison monoblock amp that goes along with the 8.9 unit.

Crazy thing is, despite the Lexus being older and having no subwoofer, it still sounds better than the stock 2011 Infiniti FX 35 did before I started upgrading it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look at post #5. The fronts are 6x9 with 2.5" depth. The tweeters are 1" per crutchfield.
I'll have a little time off come July 15th-19th and I'll take a look at the back door speakers. I believe their coaxial. I'll get back to you.
