My Brand New IS 350 shows as Previusly Repaired at a dealer
#31
I for sure wouldn't want a car that needed a shock replacement! Some people on this forum are just plain wrong in telling the OP to get over it.
He paid good hard earned money for the car. He should get what he paid for. Not anything less. NEW or nothing.

If you went out to buy a "NEW CAR" and the dealer told you that there has been repairs done to this car before you bought it, I am sure you would either ask for a discount or move on to 1 that has not been repaired.
Also, let's say, for arguments sake, the op were to take in the car to a dealer for a trade in right now as is, when the dealer sees that the car already has repairs it will more than likely affect the trade-in value. I agree that over time it will be less important as the car gets older.

You do realize a faulty shock was replaced with another brand new shock, right? Its not like it was repaired with used parts... This could have easily been replaced at the factory before leaving, or at the port upon arrival... and no one would ever know. What makes it any different that it was fixed at the dealer? You are in whole, like-new condition... no different than if you had a car with no shock replaced.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but i can tell you that i would only care of a car had body work done. A shock.. really... its a shock. No accident damage, no body work, no paint work... its a defective shock from the factory. Would you rather he drive it home, and have the part replaced on a subsequent trip to the dealer? Would that have made you feel better about having a new/unrepaired car? Give me a break...

I don't really see any difference between having the shocks replaced by the dealer or having it replaced while it was on the assembly line if they had caught the defect there

I think we all need a drink.
:-)
I'll keep the car, the record shows just a shock replacement due to failure, not collision or anything.
I will also write a letter as someone suggested, copy to Corporate and Dealer's GM, because they should check records and notify customer of the car's condition before delivery.
Yesterday I was at the dealer, and while walking around I found out that at least 4 people, on different places approached me and told me they were looking into what was the issue with my car (my Service rep, the Delivery Specialist, The Manager in charge at that time and the Tech specialist). That tells me they showed concern on what was going on, so Im cool with that. They know me because I got new cars from that dealer before and always do service there.
Im pretty much sure the car is fine, I tested it on the highway at an non disclosed speed and it drives perfectly.
:-)
I really appreciate the advise you guys gave me here and all the opinions.
What lesson could we all learned? ask for the maintenance record on the car BEFORE signing the purchase, in that way all is clear and everybody is happy.
How about that drink? :-)
