Time for the first oil change...
Hi guys,
Quick question.... i bought my used IS 2008 back in May. I've finally came up to the first 3K of me driving the car. So i assume its about that time to change the oil.
What type oil change do you advise i should get? Regular, synthetic or blended? i do not kow what the previous oil used was or when that was. Should i take it to the dealer for the oil change or can it go anywhere?
Also i'd like to point out that after just one month of having the car i had to take it in because the pistons had the carbon buildup so they were replaced. I was advised by CL to get the fuel injection bottle and pour it in as soon as i got it back from the dealer. Should i do this again after the oil change? I've only been pumping premium gas from Chevron since then thanks to the top tier gas thread i read on here.
Thanks!!

Oil changes are all about peace of mind. Any name brand oil is fine (dyno/blend/synthetic). I use synthetic and change it every 10k (as recomended by my local Toyota dealership - Mobile 1 0w-20 for $55 out the door).
On this forum, everyone has an opinion on this. Do your research and decide what makes you sleep better.

depending on which type of oil you use, the oil intervals are roughly 10k miles for synthetic and 5k miles for dino(regular?) oil or once every 12 months. HOWEVER, oil filters are rated for only 5k.
So if you do 10k oil change, you still have to change the filter at 5k.
3k oil changes are a thing of the past.

I thought we had figured out that there is a synthetic filter from the FJ we could use.
To answer your question OP, I'm still on the factory motor oil. but you could go to synthetic no problem, just keep in mind you cant go back...

Hey just a thought but how sure are you that the oil was changed when you bought the car. When I buy use and I can 't be 100% sure the oil is fresh, I change it soon as I get home ore to the nearest lube joint! Just saying.

Could you post a link to this synthetic filter? I have been using the Lexus recommended filter and would be very interested in a specialize filter.

that is a myth that you can't switch back and forth between dino and synthetic oil. You can interchange them at different periods without any repercussion to your engine.

Didn't know you could interchange oils. You learn something new everday on CL .
I'm still in the office and the sythetic filter info is back at home. I'll get it to you guys ASAP...
***UPDATE***
Here's "proof" it can be done. But when I did my research I came up with a different part numbers and that it is actually a filter cartridge but it fit for the IS-F. Maybe it can fit and we just have yet to confirm it. I'll create a thread on the TRD Oil Filters. Maybe quick123 can chime in on what he did... Sorry edgeucated and bob4256, thought it was a done deal.
