Default $1072 to replace windshield

took my car in today to get it serviced and to get a quote for my cracked windshiled so yeah.. heads up to those who end up cracking theirs.. this is what it will cost you at dealer. Even if they are more expensive it might be worthwhile than going to those other shops. I've had my windows replaced on my accord before and i had a lot of air leaks

Have you checked if you're covered by insurance?

The windshield on my G was about the same but my insurance covered it.

Yup. Definitely go the insurance route. They will try to put on an aftermarket one but if you are cordial yet adamant about it, they usually will let you do the OEM. It also helps if you get a nice adjuster.

Glass is usually covered under comprehensive which is for things that are not at-fault, meaning it wasn't you that caused the damage or you weren't determined to be at fault... if this was an environmental damage (like a rock chip, tree limb falling on it, etc) then it should be covered under comprehensive with no increase in premium...

Now a company can choose to change your premium or how it's rated if you have an excessive number of claims... they usually look not only at at-fault claims (which generally have a per occurence charge) but also at your total number of occurences ( to determine the risk of the area you live in and your driving habits).

I was an insurance agent for nearly 10 years for a major company so if you have some additional questions just PM me.

Your insurance shouldn't go up. I'm with Geico and they replace 1 windshield a year and with me living in Tucson, I usually have to get at least 1 new windshield a year. My rates have not went up yet......at least not because of the windshield. My rates just usually go up because of all the uninsured motorist in Tucson (Arizona in general).

Sorry to hear that, but how's this related to the windshield?

OP, definitely don't try a shady shop, you have had the experience with your accord...

Crap, dude...remind me to not move to Tucson. You got a bunch of kids bashing windshields all of the time or what?

You are better off to file a claim but if you're deductible is $1000 or more, it's best to pay it out of pocket. Lexus glass is not cheap which is why some insurance companies will not pay for factory glass unless it's not available or what have you. There are a few companies that manufacture aftermarket glass for the New IS. There's nothing wrong w/aftermarket glass. As a matter of fact, there are many aftermarket glass companies i.e. LOF, PPG and United just to name a few that supply Toyota with windshields and other glass domestically. Aftermarket glass will not depreciate your car's value just because it doesn't say Lexus on it.

For those that don't know I am a claims adjuster by profession.
