Default Advice on Keys

Ok so the only downside of the car i purchased, was that it came with only 1 key,.....whos plastic casing shattered on the trip home from missouri. so out of necessity i jb welded the thing back together(ghetto i know, but it works since its a holiday weekend)

what are my options? i would like 2 keys...i know the dealership is gonna charge 300 a piece for them, but will i have to get a new ecu or anything because i will need 2 new keys, and 2 new transponders?

thanks for the help(and putting up with all the newbie questions)

mmm Sewell Lexus will do it for less i think ... you can phone them ... but you end up ordering online and then providing something like VIN, registration & your ID via fax (to make sure you're not some random trying to get keys to some1 elses Lex) ... i think we even have a promo code for it somewhere on here

no worries, i bought my IS completely blind, found this forum, joined because there seemed to be a lot of knowledge on here (and it turns out there is), & figured a lot of the stuff out as i went along ... lucky thing is: its a Lexus, so there's not a too much that can go horribly wrong (even if something is broken, the car still works reasonably well as just a car)

that stuff in post 3 however, i dont kno ... but! i think you can have the keys programed as opposed to the car ... or maybe thats part of giving Sewell the VIN, maybe they can look up your car ECU # and do the programing ... or i'm out to lunch on that one

either way, i'd give them a call, they're quite knowledgible and can probably tell you the rest of what you need to know on the keys

ecu replacement i dont think is needed but they recomend it because there are 3 other keys floating around for your car. and you shouldnt be able to go somewhere and get a new key made. if you've ever seen the new gone in 60seconds they talk about the mercedes keys and our lex' keys are like that kinda they come from toyota in japan. but they should make you spares.

also you should have got 2 key fobs, a valet, and an emergancy card key. if you baught it from a dealer they should have given them to you. also i've heard of dealers not giving all of the keys, for obvious shady reasons. i would ask the place or person you got the car from about they keys
