Having recall radiator fan work then told radiator broken
Hello all
Have you heard of our radiators getting brittle at the plastic nipples for hoses? I was having recall work for the radiator fan done by Lexus of Marin. Then I get a call that the nipple broke when the were removing the hoses for recall work. I have never heard of that and was told the radiators are now plastic and get brittle from heat exposure. In the back of my mind I am wondering if they broke it by being careless. The cost was initially 470 then I asked for a better price and was offered 370 for the new radiator.
Thanks

Raise hell to your service advisor until they fix it for free.

Uh, I think they should be covering the radiator for free if it was because of the recall.
Limited Service Campaign (LSC) ELE - Certain 2008 - 2012 Model Year IS F Vehicles - Engine Cooling Fans
Status
Remedy Available
Description
The screws which secure the engine cooling fan motors to the fan shroud could become loose over time and interfere with the operation of the cooling fans. If a fan becomes damaged and inoperative, the engine coolant temperature could increase.
Remedy
Authorized Lexus dealers are requested to inspect and replace the screws securing the cooling fan motors. If the cooling fan is damaged or the cooling fan motor is missing screws, cooling fan assembly will be replaced with a new one. These repairs will be performed at NO COST to vehicle owners. This LSC will be available until November 30, 2017, and will only be available at an authorized Lexus Dealer.
edit:
couple links of other people having theirs replaced from the recall.

Thanks Liquid and Token
I spoke to the service manager again and he is filling in paperwork to see if can be covered under the recall work.
I expect them to cover it since the car was fine before I dropped it off. We'll see.

I agree with everyone else here. If the tech broke it they should be responsible for replacing it regardless if it's brittle or brandnew, it broke while they were conducting work. All you can do in these instances is hope for an honest responsible individual. If not can file a complaint but it seems this route will come down to honest responsible management, which we have seen here is not always the case.
Glad it all worked out for you.

These IS F fan bolt recalls are costing Lexus a radiator.. (Often)
But when they do the ELF recall they are giving cusotmers a hell of hard time on the harness protector..??
WTF
Someone at Lexus needs to re write their LSB safety protocols...!!
