That's really unlucky if the filter was just supplied over-oiled. I'm also running HPS and AFe oiled, for about 9K miles now, and no issues.

I don't think you'll get a code for running an oiled filter, you'll feel a performance drop though because of the oil on the MAF sensor. When installing the HPS intake pipe, did you unplug the MAF sensor? If you did then reset the ECU, that is most probably the cause of your CEL.

Ok I think I found the problem. This was the first time swapping the air filter out. When putting back on the right side of the air filter housing I don't believe I had the bottom properly aligned. I closed the top clamps but I believe the bottom of the air filter housing was not sealed. What made me relook was that the tube did not bump up flush against the stops on the air filter port. Before I swapped the air filter my tube was flush with the stops. So I pulled everything out. Including the maf and cleaned it with maf cleaner just to be sure. Everything is now lined up properly, the guy at auto zoned cleared the codes, but it has not comeback after a tank and s half of fuel. Seems like I'm getting better gas mileage now too. I believe there was a leak due to the sir filter box not being closed properly and the engine was getting too much air. Silly newbie mistake. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'll post the codes I got when I get back to the house

you wont get a code for running oiled filter but he stated that the check vsc cel was on , and when this happens is because you have a code of some kind!!!

Codes thrown for running too lean... Improper A/F mixture.
Clearly the MAF sensor was not happy with the box not properly sealed / closed..

Side note FYI to all:
Oiled Filters are also known to allow oil vapors to attach to the MAF filaments..
Overtime dust and dirt will attach to the filaments causing the MAF to throw codes as well.

i was worried about the box not closing right too. i kept looking at mine from the top and noticed it clamped shut, but kept thinking the bottom wasnt latched in..so i had to keep digging through there to make sure everything was tightly sealed after my afe drop in
