Question Left Front Strut Replacement 2007 IS250 Questions

Hey guys,

My left front strut is leaking and needs to be replaced. I have a question some of the aftermarket struts I see do not have the spring on them. Is this an issue? Can the spring on the original be put on these aftermarket ones?

How does a replacement without the spring work?

The first image is the original

The second image is an aftermarket set

Thanks so much for your replies and assistance.

You need to swap the original spring (and bump stop) to the new shock.

minimal leaking is normal, excessive leaking is not normal. what's your mileage at? you'll probably need new strut insulator or strut bellows. transferring over is simple enough. you need a strut spring compressor.

Thanks for the answers. Great so an easy swap of the spring and yes I plan to replace both the left and right with aftermarket.

My mileage is 75,000 well my mechanic says it leaking excessively and when I looked the strut body was greasy. Please tell me more about the strut insulator and strut bellows bionictony.

The shock mount insulator is the "cushion" between the shock & suspension. Order 2 new ones before you start install. They may look ok now but they won't last another 25k miles & you don't want to take everything apart again later.
