Looking to buy Lexus IS, what should I look out for?
I come from the Nissan side, had Maximas and currently a G35 sedan...my girlfriend is looking to purchase a car so I recommended the IS250 because it's a 4 cylinder with AWD and since it's a Lexus they are known to be reliable. We test drove a 2007 IS today black on black with 115k and we both thought it was great.
We are looking in the 9-12k price range so I know there are some ISs out there, but many 06/07 with 100K-120K miles. At that point what work should be done for proper maintenance? I know spark plugs should be done around 100k and brakes regularly...What I really want to know are the more serious (specific to the Lexus engine and drive train or suspension) items that need to be looked at? I am interested to know what type of maintenance is recommended on the cars, for example timing belt, trans/dif fluid, etc. and if any recalls should be looked at
I have 203K miles on my g35 and do pretty much all the repairs myself, the car has been burning a lot of oil for the past 100k miles but overall running very well. I am hoping to get the same out of the IS
What should I expect with the 2nd Gen IS 250? Any help would be appreciated

Did you check out the FAQ thread stickied to the top of the forum? I'd highly recommend checking it out, as there is a tremendous wealth of useful information there. In regards to your question, the FAQ has a buyers guide - here is a direct link: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...e-threads.html

Read through the first few pages and seems like there isn't anything serious and through further research I am glad to see the car uses a timing chain

I wouldnt get the 250, 350 has had less issues as far as recalls. Plus less power ect. Great that you are a savy mech because you'll save A LOT of money changing out the typical replacement parts ie; water pump, alternentor, sensors ect. There's many theads of DIY that has help a ton of people on here so scan through them. I've had my 350 for a couple years and no major issues what so ever. I replaced my water pump, upgraded my alt and as well as my A/F sensors that were bad. Good luck and do your homework before you seriously purchase a 250.

For $12k, you can get 2007 is250 with 80k miles
Look for lower mileage cars...under 100k.
There are plenty of cars in your area with under 100k miles.
what is your zip code and how far are you willing to travel to get this car?
