Default Thinking of getting 2011 IS 250, is CPO worth it?

I've been looking at the CPO listings at the lexus dealers in my area. My focus is on the 2010-2011 models because 2010 is when they introduced bluetooth as a standard option. However a few questions:

1) Is CPO worth it for a 2010-2011 used car? There's still about 2-3 years left on the original warranty so isn't the CPO a waste of money?

2) A lot of the good CPO deals are dealership loaner cars. Do people abuse IS 250 loaners a lot?

3) Does CPO require that I go to the dealer I bought the car from for service/repairs?

waste of $ in my opinion... you'll still have a coupe years of factory warranty already, and can always add more (a lot more than the 3 years of CPO too)

Yes they do. Same reason I'd never buy a used rental, though a bit less so in this case as Lexus drivers on average will be older/less abusive to cars, and loaners are usually out for a few hours or a couple days locally, so less opportunity to abuse vs. rentals.

Nope, that'd be illegal.

I wouldn't think they'd even sell a 2011 CPO, since the CPO warranty is only for 3 years and the 2011 models still have 3 years of factory warranty remaining (and factory warranty is better than CPO). In that situation it would be a total waste. But do keep in mind that the longer the amount of time an extended warranty (like CPO) runs concurrently with a factory warranty, the lower the price of said extended warranty.

In your situation I would recommend buying a 2010-2011 model non-CPO and then call up Jerry Johnson or Troy Dietrich and buy a Platinum VSA before your factory warranty expires. More information on warranties can be found here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...e-threads.html

1. if lexus is trying to push a 2011 as a CPO, they should be whipped. thats a suckers buy.

2. I doubt lexus owners are abusing an IS 250 loaner. its the slowest sedan in lexus' lineup. if it were a 350, i would take abuse into consideration.

I take the opposite view. Everyone (except existing 250 owners) getting one as a loaner is going to go "Holy crap this thing is slow compared to my normal car, I'm gonna have to floor the crap out of it to get it to move at all!"

I would never buy a loaner or demo.
The IS250 is abused like any other loaner.Maybe more by people who drive quicker Lexus vehicles.
Hell,I abuse loaners and mash on a demo to see what the car has for passing and pulling on to a highway.

I would never buy a loaner or heven forbid a rental. I've seen people rent a car for the weekend and use it at the local track/autox etc.

I've also seen loaners being raced, and e brake slides at 60mph in a parking lot when I was back in high school. I was not the one doing the driving nor was it my loaner. Let's just say the car was driven back to the dealership with oil coming out from the oil cap and all four tires needing replaced. The sad thing is the dealership gave that person another loaner for the remainder of the time.

i agree with most people here. Definitely stay away from any loaners, demos, or rental cars. When people use these, they don't exactly care what happens to the car.

In general I think CPO is worth it. 2011 CPO is unusual. Normally my next question would be what is the in service date and mileage, but since this is a loaner I would skip it and move on. While I am careful with loaners, I see teh way the interiors are treated and that makes me concerned about the mechanical components being abused. Next....

Thanks for the feedback. I found a lot of 2011 CPOs so I guess dealers are using it as an excuse to raise the price. There's a few good deals on 2009 CPOs that I'm considering and none of them are loaners.

Also a question about the backseats. Almost every review I've read mentions how cramped it is back there. I have a few friends who are 6'2 to 6'4 are they gonna be able to even get in the car? It won't happen often, but sometimes I get dinner with friends and end up driving.

6'2" and 6'4" will suffer in back.

i'm only 5'5" and no one in my family is over 6'1". i love this car, but when i drive it no one can sit behind me comfortably.... not to mention my 6'1" husband. lack of backseat room in this car is the main reason we purchased an RX.

ask them what is the benefit of having a 2010 2011 CPO car...

Its just a way to raise the prices i bet. some dealers will lower the price and remove the CPO warranty... if you want newer year try that approach.

If you find a CPO 2011, ask the dealership how much it is without the warranty. Most dealers will sell it for cheaper without the warranty, but they will mark up for any repairs they had to do. For a 2011, that should be minimal. For a 2009 CPO, i'd get a CPO warranty.

6'2" and 6"4" are a no go for the back seats. Unless the people in the front are pretty much hugging the dash, it's going to be somewhat uncomfortable lol. I'm OK in the back seat if the front seat is moved up far, but if its even half way back, its hard for me to sit comfortably (I'm 6ft tall).

So looks like if you have dinner with friends, you'll no longer have to be the one driving
