IS F extended warranty - worth it?
So - I'm buying a 2011 IS F with 18k miles, CPO. I'm not worried about the mechanicals, but the electronics. Is it worth buying an extended warranty? It comes standard with a three year up to 100k warranty. For six years up to 100k it's $1950. My current thinking is for a $47,000 car what's another two grand? I won't hit the mileage over the timeframe, as it's a third car...
Thoughts?

I like the added safety comfort of having it. I got it for my car also. If I never need it and it expires then oh well but I don't want to get caught that one time not having it.....

I didn't realize it initially, but taking the CPO option got me the 0%/36 month financing on the 2011 CPO IS F I bought last month, so it was not worth taking the $1000 credit on the asking price. I have a short list of very minor nitpicks I'll have the local dealer look at when I take the car in for the free oil change, but I really don't expect much to go wrong with the car while I own it. You have significant factory warranty left on the car, and my research shows that not much goes bad on the IS F. You could spend $200.00 on a pro inspection where they test every switch, have the dealer address anything that's found, and pocket the $1K if they'll agree to that credit on your certified car. Don't ask for that credit, or pay for the inspection till your sure they are at their bottom dollar 1st. I contacted several Lexus dealers in different states searching, and nearly all called back with lower offers within a few days to a week.

Glad I had it, i used it a couple times.
Its a good selling point if you ever do sell the car. You can also cash it in for a pro-rated amount when you sell the car. I was surprised how quickly Lexus sent me a check for it! In the end I came out quite ahead.

When I purchased the F it already came with 3 years of warranty but extended for another 3 years because you never know what'll happen. Faulty sat nav? That'll be around $3,000.

Very rare but if the Nav unit goes....$14K from Sewell (without CL discount)+ labor.
8680453490
COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY, NAVIGATION COMPUTER (W/ PIONEER AUDIO) NAVIGATION&EMV &NAVIGATION SYSTEM-WITH (HDD NAVI) 01 Ships 24-48 hrs $14530.40
CL discount $12447.16
Hard to believe the NAV/radio unit costs that much.
Someone here with an ES needed the complete unit and was given a $15K fix number.

I love it when people said Lexus is the most reliable cars ever then turned around and said extended warranty is MUST
I think it is depending on your situation. How many miles r you going to drive? R you going to keep the car for a long time? btw, thinking that having extended warranty help selling the car is a terrible idea. Sure, it will help sell the car but you are not going to get too much of the $1950 back.
Extended warranty is different for everyone. If you can't afford it then go for it. The chance of you using it is probably low.
Also, I believe you could purchase Extended warranty anytime before the factory warranty expired!

To the OP- my main point is depending on your situations. Take your time, have the car for awhile and see if you really need it. Just make your decision before rhe factory warranty runs out. Plus you could shop around for better deal.

When I bought my Supra in '93, the finance guy tried to sell me an extended warranty for a mere $2200. I got his tune changed pretty quickly. I said, "Wait a minute, the guys on the floor were telling me how reliable Toyotas are, and now you're telling me this car is going to break and it's going to be expensive to fix it?"
I got him down to $732...less than the price of a turbo failure. I got more than my money's worth out of it.
