I'd also like to know if anyone used access to this compartment as a way to fix or mitigate the dash rattle at all. I have a rattle coming from the dash clip directly in front of this compartment, and I don't know if opening it will allow me to try and fix it or put felt in at all.
Also, does anyone have specific instructions on how to open it? I know in the first post he uses a credit card to pry up the front, but I'm worried about breaking tabs or something like that. It may sound like I'm being overly careful, but with the rattling problems I've had in the past, I know that if I were to try and pry it open and it broke, I'd probably be in store for even more rattles.

I was thinking about putting something like this in that slot to hold my Ipod (since the hole is a circular shape anyways)

perhaps mount a little nav unit there too

if you use a credit card just like in that pic it will pop out very easily. Everything is that area is kind of soft rubber so I do not see any rattles coming from there, no matter what you do.
