HID's. 8000 v.s. 6000
With price not an option, why do people choose the 6000K HID's over the 8000K HID's? Are 8000K bulbs not legal in every state? Do people not like the looks of the bluish hue?

My understanding is that 8000K has noticably less visible light

From an aftermarket hid site, they had a picture comparing OEM 4300K to 6000K from an ES330

This was true when I owned my BMW, but the 8000K output doesn't have the range that 6000K does. You lose some of your visibility going forward.
The 8000K will be more purplish in color versus the 6000K, which will appear more white.
6000K is a good bulb for that "white" light look without compromising your range of visibility.

4100K, 4300K - OEM, best visibility whitest light (like sunlight)
6000K - good visibility whitish blue light (everything lit will look like they are lit by an LED flashlight)
8000K - halogens can have better visibility, bluish purple light (everything lit is blue)
People go for the 6K's since they have some bling effect, but still have decent visibility. 8K is pure bling, and doesn't really improve the car at all. Many states such as CA have laws against headlights that are very blue or purple in hue.
IMO OEM 4100K/4300K is the best. Cut off line on a good projector will still have color, and you will not have any trouble seeing.

Thanks for all the info guys. I didn't know that the 8000 had less visible light.
So I think 6000K is the way to go for me. Now I have an IS 350 with just the premium package so I don't have HID's. What part #('s) would I need to get to have a 6000K set installed? Thanks.
