Enform audio doesn't recognize iPod USB connection
I can connect my iPhone's iPod function via Bluetooth, but not the cable. I get a message that the system can't detect the iPod and that I should check the connection, or something like that. There is nothing wrong with the cable, however. I used it to connect the phone to my laptop and it worked fine. Am I doing something wrong, or is this possibly a warranty issue? (I am still under warranty.)

OP, do a few searches on this subject for more including links I and others have put in those posts, and troubleshooting with others on some of the points... As an aside, this has nothing to do with Enform, it's just part of the Infotainment iPod support in your RX. In summary though, a few things to verify:
-- Ensure you are using a supported (the list is in the manual) and REAL Apple iPod -- if it's some odd-name knock-off player, the iPod function may not work and is not supported by Lexus
-- Ensure your real Apple iPod is running the latest firmware -- just connect via iTunes and update if you are prompted to do so
-- Ensure you are using a REAL Apple iPod Cable -- some of the cheap knock-offs are known to fail in very unusual ways and it varies from device to device
-- Try resetting your iPod using the button combinations. Apple info depending on your iPod type is HERE. Then reconnect to your RX. This has resolved my problems more than once.
-- I've also found some variation if I connect an iPod when the RX is running vs when it's not. You may want to try it both ways.
-- I found there was an update to the Infotainment firmware in my 2013 (with Nav & Mark Levinson) that the dealer could apply. If that or some other is available for your 2010, I couldn't say. You could perhaps find the info if you wanted to pay for access to TIS, but if the steps I listed above fail and you have a supported and real Apple device, then you may want to try getting the firmware updated under warranty while you still have it available.
GOOD LUCK!

As Bert indicated, there may be an update for the 2010 RX.
Check with your dealer. One that may solve your problem is mentioned in this service bulletin.

Many of us with early 2010's complained about all sorts of problems. Some solved by Apple, some solved by Lexus. Bert mentioned updating your iPhone/iPod. Very important to stay up to date and hard restart it every so often. Although, at one time the phone was not officially supported by Lexus, just the iPods. That's worth checking too.
I just leave an old iPhone plugged in down in "The Cave" all the time. It works just fine and I update the music once every six months or so. (The Cave = bottom of center console) The phone is on all the time, so it goes dead when the RX is off for a period of time, but you can hear it chirp and power up after the RX has been on for awhile.

No, I don't play soccer!
Great advice as always, BertL. There's only one firmware update related to the iPod that I'm aware of to fix the scrolling issue. Click here for more information. Now the USB connection error message typically happens when I leave the iPod connected, turn off the 450h, and then turn it back on some time later. I'd say it occurs about half the time. The fix is to disconnect the iPod, turn the 450h off and on, and then connect. Aptosuser, I'd suggest trying that. If the problem persists, have the dealer check it out. They have technology specialists to address issues like this.

I've never even heard the "chirp" when I connect my iPhone to the car via USB cable, which leaves me wondering whether the car's connection is bad.

Yup, that was apparently the issue. It had worked before. I realized that previously I'd connected the phone after I'd started the car. Most recently, I'd plugged the cable into the the phone and then started the car. I tried it the other way around this morning and the USB connection worked. It's too bad this early version of Enform doesn't let me select playlists from the screen. At least I don't see a way to do that.

"Problem" solved. I have a surplus of iImplements and so today I connected my iPod nano to the audio system's USB port, turned on the car and voila, the system read the iPod and I was able to select music on the point-and-click screen. I think the difficulty I previously had was my problem, in that I was trying to play music on my iPhone without first selecting its iPod function. Color me iEmbarrassed.
