Check Hybrid System light leads to $3,500 warranty part
Just bought my 2010 two weeks ago and the check hybrid warning light came on after 200 miles. Service manager said it was a shorting problem with the air conditioning compressor. It was covered by Lexus but he said the compressor alone was $3,500. Sure was glad the warranty was there. Love the car and really want to see it last for us. Great, that I found all of the helpful info here on CL

I wonder why a problem with the air conditioning compressor would trigger the hybrid warning light. By the way, if you didn't get a Certified Pre-Owned warranty, you might look into getting one before the current warranty runs out. There are several good threads on this forum with referrals for Lexus Platinum warranties at very fair prices (and a lot lower than what you'd probably have to pay at your local Lexus dealer).

I dont know why people always tell you not to buy warranty. All my cars except 1 had extended warranty and I came out ahead every time.
If the car is CPO, you can only buy cpo warranty at the time of purchase, I asked the guys here that was selling it and they can't get you CPO warranty only the regular factory non cpo warranty.
99 Accord - very simple car, no gps, etc, no ext warranty, no problem till last month when the axle broke off.. its original from 99 with 120k
05 TSX - Ext warranty till 115k - AC went (est 3500 bill), GPS 2x (1500 each), misc parts, axle, etc. All cover, ext warranty was 1200.
07 Z4 - Ext warranty till 100k - transmission leaked 2x, both covered, new headlights, misc small parts. Ext warranty was 1800 I think.
2010 RX - Ext warranty till 125k - no problems yet but with all these complex hybrid/gps system, I bet ill make my money back.. ext was 1900 I think, forgot

You do not have to buy the CPO warranty at the time of purchase. Any Lexus vehicle, whether it has been CPO or not, qualifies for the Platinum warranty (which is exactly the same as CPO warranty) just as long as it is still under the 4 year/50,000 mile warranty.
