Lexus platinum extended warranty costs for new 450h?
So we just purchased a new 450h (deep sea mica) today and after the sale, all the add-ons started. We decided to get the body side molding but skipped the pinstripe (though I'm having second thoughts about that). The one thing that I was hesitant about was the 8 year/100k extended warranty. The first quoted price was over $4k. Bit steep i thought without even researching. Then he found a $1500 coupon that we could use. Uh, whatever. So now we're under $3k. We're not taking delivery until next Saturday, so figured, ok, get it and do the research, and worst case, cancel before we take delivery. $750 per year didn't seem unreasonable given it's a hybrid. Come here and see all kinds of pricing under $2k, and people buying in year 4 of the standard warranty.
We're still inclined to get it, but will negotiate more or buy elsewhere. But we had a couple of questions --
1. Does the warranty cost more for a hybrid? Is the cost vehicle specific?
2. Are you obligated to do all of the recommended and other services at a Lexus dealer to keep the warranty in good standing?
3. Is it true that you can purchase it as long as the initial warranty is still in place?
4. Any recommendations for dealers to buy from?
Thanks to all for the great info shared here. Helped us quite a bit in deciding on a '13 and in negotiations. Can't wait to hit the road. . .

Welcome to CL and congrats on your purchase.
Do some searches here and on the RX forum for this subject. Lots of recent threads on same sort of questions. You'll find varying opinions on the value of extended warranty -- generally polarized at the extremes of "I'd never have one" to "always would have one". In my case, I like the planned piece-of-mind and budgeting it allows, and do have one on my 2013 RX450h. Even with the high quality of the Lexus vehicles I've owned, given I keep my vehicles 5-7 years on average with low mileage, it's paid off for me in all cases but one over the years.
Your specific questions:
1. Pricing is by model type and model year, not options. There is a suggested MSRP, but dealers can and will set their own pricing, just as they do with vehicles.
2. You just need to keep up with maintenance within reason. Service does not need to be done by Lexus -- some people have it done by Toyota or DIY. Warranty items of course must always be done by Lexus. My Lexus on Lexus.com even provides a way for you as the owner to input service info not performed by Lexus so it's captured in their records and kept with the history of your vehicle.
3. When you read the terms, you can purchase the agreement as long as the warranty is in place (meaning first 4 years with your RX). You don't have to purchase at time of your vehicle. The value of doing so is perhaps locking in a price and/or having it's cost locked in with your monthly payments. You can always cancel the contract at any time and get a refund from LFS for the remaining months.
4. When you do that search on the forums here, you'll find some Lexus-authorized internet sellers (actually Toyota and Lexus dealers) that will quote you via email. One option is Troy at FD-Warranty.com. I strongly suggest you contact one or two of them now, get a quote, print it, and at a minimum use it with your dealer as a negotiation point when you go in to pick up your RX. The pricing will be perhaps 50% of what your dealer will try to sell it to you for. It will take you another step and a bit more paperwork to complete with the internet guys, but will likely save you big bucks. In my case, my dealer matched the written quote I had -- it ended up being below their cost to do so (which was interesting), and it saved me the hassle of another after-the-fact transaction.
If you've not done so, check out this page on the Lexus Financial site and explore the info. I'd always recommend the Platinum version over the gold since most everything is covered that way except consumables such as battery, wiper blades, etc, as well as go for the zero deductible version of the plan (only costs about $50 more one time), and that then pays for itself in one claim.

The best I've seen is:
Midwest Toyota, KS Jerry Johnson 800-530-5789 620-664-8844 (cell)
They sell Lexus and Toyotas.
I have a 2013 RX350. For a 8/100K, $0 deductible is $1960.
The 7/100 is $1615. It might be a few bucks more for a RX450. I bet you can't beat his prices.

By the way, Troy at FD-Warranty.com, his prices are $120 more on all warranties compared to Midwest Toyota/Lexus. See my previous post.
Their prices are so good, I have purchased from them (in Kansas even though I live in New Hampshire) over the years, warranties for a Toyota Camry, Toyota Prius, and a Lexus RX350.

I'm in the process of buying a CPO and they offer me VSA LFS Platinum, I read that you can only buy CPO warranty during purchase, is that true or I can buy mine at FD-Warranty.com ?

IMO you never want to buy the ext warranty from the dealer who sells you the car.
I have contacted several Lexus dealers across the country who sell warranties.
The best I found is:
Midwest Toyota/Lexus in Kansas
Call Jerry Johnson at 800-530-5789
On a RX350 2013, a 7/100 $0 deduct warranty is $1615.
8/100 is $1960. There are other choices too.
I bet these prices can't be beat. It's about half what my dealer charges.
Fd-warranty.com is about $100-$200 more.

I am about to pick up a 2010 LS460L with 31,000 mi. Certified.........................the dealer quoted me 2yrs more on top of Certified 3yrs/100,000 for $1850. I asked them if they can add 25,000 mi., but they said no. I just shoot Jerry Johnson for quote and see what he can come up.

Jerry is probably unable to help, I was trying to buy certified warranty and he only sells it for new.. so basically if you buy 5 year, it will be 5 year from 2010, not fro 2013. Sad, he has better price
