Hi All. I have Lexus GX470 2007 with 96k miles on it. I am trying to decide what I should do with T-Belt and Water pump, to replace or no to replace. Also, if to replace where would be the best place to do it: 1. Local Mechanic Shop, Toyota Dealer, or Lexus Dealer? Also, any idea how much would the whole project cost, parts + labor? I live in Brooklyn NY, any suggestion where should do the service.

you can buy an Aisin timing belt kit with water pump, belt, tensioner, idler, thermostat, etc for around $300. I would think an independent joint would do the job for $300. so around $600-700 for total job

Just checked Autohaus AZ (my go to online parts shop), Aisin (OEM) kit is $165 (w/o hyd tensioner) and $198 (with hyd tensioner).

Don't forget the Toyota Super Long Life coolant, this is a great opportunity to do a coolant flush and refill with fresh.

I shopped around earlier this year. I called Lexus, Toyota, a few national chains and 2 Indy shops.

In the end I went to Toyota. I paid right around $800 for both water and timing belt. They were $100 more then the national chain and $150 more then the Indy shop. Lexus was way out of the running at $1500. I searched the web and it seems most dealers have some sort service coupons. A Toyota dealer down the road had a $50 coupon for the timing belt. I showed it to my local dealership and they accepted it.

I did talk with the national chains asking a lot of questions. I am sure they could have done the work, but for the extra $100, to me was worth going to Toyota. They do these 4.7's all day long versus the chains and Indys.

The best part, since I was getting a pricey service, they gave me a free loaner!! I had a new 2014 Camry that was loaded. That alone was worth it as I didn't have to rush back to get the GX, get rides back and forth, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I could have set up a rental and paid less then $100, it was just such a simple no hassle process. Hand them my keys and they gave me another set.

Definitely make a few calls around your area and check out those coupons.

Have a local indy shop do it and buy your kit here and save a bundle....
