Default Water Pump Leaking...What all should I replace?

I was told today that my water pump was leaking by my local shop guy. I have 93k miles on my 2003 GS 300. Should I go ahead and replace the timing belt at the same time I replace the water pump? Is there anything else you would recommend me doing at this time with this mileage on my car? Thanks for all your help. This site is a life saver.

Timing belt, water pump, and maybe have them inspect the serpentine belt and see if that needs to be replaced as well.

Thanks for the info. I have another question. Does the timing belt have to come out to get the water pump replaced? My shop guy just quoted me $660 for parts and labor just for the water pump. It's just a local shop with about 7 car bays. I bought tires there and get my car serviced. That seemed high to me though. Thanks for all the help.

Your timing belt is due for a change, $660 for parts and labor isn't too bad. I would also suggest you change your cam seals as well. You can get the parts on your own but expect to pay about $350+ for labor. If your belt goes... you're out an engine.

Well, most owners change the timing belt at 90k, and since the water pump is right there, most get that changed also since the labor is already done and already factored into the total cost. You are just pretty much paying for the added cost of the part (water pump). In your case, it is the water pump that needs to be replaced. And since you are at 93k, might as well do the timing belt since that is a HUGE part of maintenance. So your situation is the other way around. The bottom line is this, get your timing belt + water pump replaced for sure, and while at it, maybe serpentine belt + cam seals depending on the wear.

Thanks again for all the info. Does anybody have a specific brand of water pump they would recommend? What about a timing belt brand? Part numbers are welcome. Thanks.

also do all the pulleys and tensioners. you won't be disappointed. my engine at idle is so incredibly quiet after doing it all at 110k. IIRC there's two of each.

not every single pulley, just the ones related to the timing belt/water pump

Our local Lexus dealer charges $399 for the replacement of the timing belt on a 6-cyl ($499 for V-8) and $129 for a new serpentine (fan) belt installed. These should be replaced when replacing your water pump. Many Lexus dealers also offer 10 to 20% discounts coupons from their website, newsletter or service counter that you can apply to your total repair. I recommend using OEM parts should you get them done at an independent garage. Suggest you get an estimate too from your local Lexus dealer as a comparison. Good luck.

I agree, should replace the belts, water pumps all at once, save the time and money.
