white LED plate bulbs
I'm bored and since there's not much to do w/ our GX I went on the hunt for some pure white LED plate bulbs. I've been running superbrightleds 194 bulbs but they're a "cool" white (6K), which has a blue hue to it: https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...edge-base/204/ . I've made my own LED tail lights, side markers and plate bulbs in the past. I have a few tubes of white 30mA Cree P4s and I was going to make some boards for the GX but they too have a slight hint of blue in them, see pics below.
So I took a chance and ordered a pair of 5K bulbs from Vleds: http://www.vleds.com/bulb-type/miniature-wedge-base/194-168-158-led/white-5k/5k-white-4-led-2w-high-power-bulbs-194-168-158-1-pair.html . Finally a pure white LED! They seem to be built really well and they have a heat sink which helps a lot because these things get fairly hot to the touch after about 3-4mins. They're 2W putting out 105 lumens per bulb. I love bright bulbs but I never expected these to be this bright, they're like mini-HID bulbs. These pics really don't do them any justice.
Anyway here's some pics I took tonight.....
Cool White (superbrightleds)
5K (VLeds)
Look how wide the plate bulbs are compared to the HID bulbs.
I'm running Philips 4300K 85122 bulbs and when you compared the 4300K output to 5K output you can still see some blue in the LEDs but in person they look pure white.
I don't know why this pic is making my front lights have a yellowish color, they're anything but....
Here's a board of P4s that I made for my Vorza Flux r/c buggy so my daughter and I can run it at night...I have a board w/ red Philips Superflux (70mA) for the tails that are as bright as OEM LED tails.

Yeah retrofitsource has great products and they're not too expensive. That's why I don't understand why people still buy China "Japan" HID kits for $200+ when you can buy a pair of OEM Toyota Denso ballasts w/ bulbs for under $250. You can also find them cheaper if you find a deal on hidplanet.com.
Denso Ballasts w/ AMP connector IE: HID kit bulb connector

I did the S2K lens swap / color mod and painted the shields white. Rich did the actual retro. I was in the process of moving and needed it done asap. Rich did it in for me in 2 days.
I've done other retros in my past vehicles, both had factory projectors:
1st gen MDX (TSX, then S2K)
E39 BMW (FX35, then SC430 w/ S2K lens swap / color mod and painted the shields black)
It's easier w/ our headlights since we already have projectors. It's just a matter of trimming and making a bracket out of some thin sheet aluminum. If you check out hidplanet I'm sure you'll get an idea on how to do it.

I bought Philips LED bulbs for my license plate and running boards from Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-X...7#.UmWV-FNpPpk
They are very white. No hint of blue at all. The running boards are especially brighter than the stock.
