Windshield Replacement
Recieved a rock and accompanying big crack across the windshield while driving across the mountains. Natuarally the dealer would like to repair it with "Lexus" glass, and says that only their glass will work with the moisture sensing system of the windshield wipers. And they'll "only charge $950.00!"
I checked with a 1st class glass replacement company in the area who has always done supurb work for me (and dealers and body shops) on my other luxury vehicles, and they charge $380.00. They only use top quality aftermarket glass (PPG, etc). Their windshild also has the little black dots and is guaranteed to work with the automatic function of the wipers.
As the aftermarket windshield meets all OEM specs, and I go with the Lexus dealers glass, my insurance company will only pay $380.00, leaving me the balance to pay.
So, anyone had any problems from using other than Lexus glass (which is made for them by who know who)?
Thanks,
Bruce

screw the dealer, get the aftermarket glass. Personally, I don't care for the "Lexus" glass as it streaks more frequently here in the north with all the slush, regardless of what brand wiper I use.

I was in the same situation last summer with our '04. I told the insurance company I wanted to go with the Lexus glass because of the rain sensing wipers. They covered the Lexus glass with the work done at the dealership without a problem.
If your insurance truly won't cover the entire cost of the Lexus glass and the other company guarantees that the wipers with work with the aftermarket glass, then I think it's a good deal for you.
