Does my 1999 GS300 have a Karman-Vortex air flow sensor? Is CRC safe to use?
I'm thoroughly confused after searching for a simple answer. Can I use CRC MAF cleaner on my 1999 GS300? Does my car have a Karman-Vortex air flow sensor or not? Thanks.
UPDATE: Scroll down to see what issue I'm dealing with and see you can help. Thanks.

It worked!
This is amazing. I went from preparing for transmission work that would've cost $$$$ to having a perfectly running vehicle. I used the CRC MAF cleaner and let it dry completely. It worked beyond my comprehension. The car is running better than it did when I first got it. Crazy.
Update: The problem came back. It comes and goes with no rhyme or reason. Some days it's fine for hours, then all the issues come back. Gonna try replacing MAF sensor.

So a day after I thought everything was fine, the CEL came back, as did the VSC lights, and the problems with hesitation during acceleration. Basically, everything went back to the way it was before I thought I had fixed it. I don't know what to do. Wish clublexus users would actually help a little.

What are your CEL codes? You're expecting too much from us when we're essentially flying blind. There's a number of reasons as to why your CEL and VSC lights are on...

P0171 - system too lean.
The issue went away for half a day again, then came back on a later drive. Luckily, I can go 45 mph the gas pedal to the floor (RPMs only get up to 2K).
I've ordered a replacement MAF sensor that should arrive in a few days.
I'm hoping to have the same luck as seen here (almost exact same symptoms): http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/dir...w/.ef7e957/296

p0171 can be a number of things. check for cracked pcv hoses, intake/ vacuum leaks , ive even seen leaking brake boosters cause that code due to sucking in of unmetered air though a booster leak. I wouldn't replace the MAF until i made sure all the above was checked. Number one cause i've seen for this code is the intake tube at the throttle body being left loose or cracked from age. i've worked at toyota since 1999 so this is all based on what i've seen when dealing with this code. Obviously a bad MAF can also be the issue which is also fairly common. I know it sucks spending money on parts that don't fix a problem, so hopefully this helps get you pointed in right direction.

I appreciate the insight. Would a cracked or loose intake tube cause the intermittent issues noted?
Edit: I guess I haven't really explained the main issue here.
The issue: Hesitation during acceleration with CEL and VSC and VSC OFF lights showing.

If the lights on the dash are on the ecm is most likely in safe mode, so there will be erratic drivability. A slightly cracked air intake tube might cause an intermittant problem. A loose one probably wont be as intermittant. Is idle super low at all?? Low idle is a pretty good sign of a sizable air leak since the ecm can't account for the excess air that didnt get measured through the MAF. If you have access to a nice scanner you might be able to check freeze frame data for what the condition (MAF sensor values, water temp, o2 readings) was when the light set.

Btw if the the check engine light is on the vsc lights will always come on to deactivate that system. The logic with that is the the readings that caused you check engine light are not reliable enough for the vsc system to work properly (this is for any toyota/lexus vehicle equipped with vsc).

I'm sorry guys. It was a few months ago when I had the CEL P0171 - system too lean - code read. The CEL stayed on that entire time PLUS all the clues pointed to that being the issue. Well, just to be sure, today I went to confirm that code. That is no longer the code given (cleaning the MAF sensor may have eliminated it, who knows).
The CEL codes given today are the following: P1120 and P1121
Sorry for giving faulty info earlier, but now we've got the whole picture.

I looked up the codes.
P1120 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P1121 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Range/Performance Problem
Do you recommend I make a new post for these codes?

You seem to have a problem with the accelerator position sensor. On the throttle body there is a TPS sensor on one side and an accelerator pedal position sensor on the other (4pin connector i believe), the throttle cable attaches to it on the throttle body. It's located on the side closest to the firewall. i've located a picture of the part (and it just so happens to have a part number too). basically this sensor monitors your throttle input from the pedal and adjusts the throttle plate accordingly. You can try cleaning it with some electrical parts cleaner but there is no guarantee it will fix it. Good luck bud!
