What year is best?
Between 98-05, is there one particular year the car was built best for instance materials in building the car. etc.? For a DD would you suggest a GS300 or GS400? I looked at MPG and prices on Craigs. Doesn't seem like that much of a difference.

Without regard to build quality, if I was buying a GS3, I'd get the 03 Sportdesign simply b/c it had nicer options (to me anyhow)-- wood wheel, navi, perforated seats, saddle leather in some, darkened headlight and fog light bezels, deck lid spoiler, black chrome emblems, & SD mats.
If I was buying a 400, I'd get a platinum edition only available in 2000 also due to perforated leather.
As for 430's, I'd just look for the mintiest one with a black gut so I could do the saddle swap.
Hope that helps.

^I agree with that one. But the 2000 is hard to pass up on since that was the turning point for this GS model. I would NOT say a 1998 because Lexus had to iron out many kinks and revise many different looks from that year model.
