Just got a crack in my windshield by a rogue rock....
I have only owned my 2014 GS for 4 months with only 4000 miles on the obo and it has already have a crack due to a rock. I read other threads on this forum about other people who have this same problem with weak Lexus glass. I have owned many cars in my lifetime including a 2006 LS430 with 230,000 miles on the obo which have never had a chip or crack in its windshield despite it having been hit many times by rocks.
Anyways, do you guys know how much it would cost to replace my windshield with OEM lexus glass including labor? Should I even claim this with my insurance considering my deductible is $500? Do you guys know where I can buy a Hood mounted Bug/Rock deflector for my GS?
The crack runs from lower driver side through the middle and all the way to the upper right corner of the passenger side. Will this crack still be safe to drive? I have had this windshield tinted with LLumar CTX film just if you guys wanted to know.

You should go though your insurance and it won't increase your premium. Some policy have $0 or $50 deductible for glass. The total cost for new Lexus OEM windshield around $1200. Some people here reported $2000.

Its just luck. My GS has 25,000 miles on it and no chips, cracks, stars, whatever (knock on wood! Leaving on an 800 mile round trip in about an hour LOL), its just luck. Rock deflector on the hood? I'd rather have a cracked windshield. And it won't make any difference, did the rock hit the hood beforehand?
Replacement installed OEM will be $1,500-$2,000. Rock deflector on the hood? I'd rather have a cracked windshield.
Be sure your COMPREHENSIVE deductible is $500. Its not a collision claim. If it is I would lower it to $50, unlike the collision deductible it won't affect the premium much. My collision deductible is $1,000 and my comprehensive is $50.
They WILL fight you about the OEM glass. Stick to your guns.

I wonder if putting a clear bra on the windshield will help with rock chips/cracks. I do have small chips on mine with only 2k miles.

sorry to hear..
the previous owner had the windshield on my IS350 replaced by Lexus due to a large rock chip. the dealer did a lousy job. the glass is on perfectly, but the trim around the glass was cut and needs replacing. so be sure to inform your dealer to carefully remove the trim and not slice it in a few places to make it easier to remove.. express some concern and hopefully they'll do a cleaner job. otherwise I would recommend replacing the trim as well..
