Default guage problems

I just bought a 94 gs300 with 101k miles SHOWN and everything runs fine. only problem is the speedometer doesn't move, nor does the odometer accumulate miles when i drive. The previous owner my friend which had the car for 5 years, said the odometer and the speedometer stopped working about a year back so im guessing the car has about 125k on it. He also stated that they stopped working after an after-market alarm with auto start was installed. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so has an idea of where to start to fix this. Thanks!
