AC recirculation mode trap door?

AC recirculation mode trap door?
In the 3GS (and same era Lexus models), the AC recirculation is done through a trap door that open and close right by the air filter (behind the glove box). When it is in recirculation mode, the trap door is open. That's also the mode to be in to change air filter, otherwise forcing that door open and it will break and become an expensive repair.
Does anyone know in the 4GS, where is this trap door? I looked behind the glove box, it's just the AC filter, there is no trapped door of any kind in front of it.
I suspect my recirculation mode is not working correctly after the dealerships spent the longest time fix the radio noise problem. On the radio unit it still shows I am in recirculation mode (and i can select fresh or AUTO), however all kind of smell still comes in from outside. I know it's not 100% isolated, but the smell shouldn't be this strong. The other day my wife was stuck behind a truck with bad exhaust and the smell was so bad that her only choice was to shut off AC when it is 90 degrees outside.
Thanks!

The radio noise problem you just mentioned is it like a humming/ vibrating noise that you hear coming from the unit? I think I seem to have that same issue. I noticed it a few weeks ago. And regarding smells coming into the cabin does not seem to be normal at all when in recirculation mode.

sometimes proving to dealership that there is a problem is much harder than trying to fix the problem yourself
imho, yes it started out as humming noise and eventually turned into pretty loud squeaking noise. only in cold and last for like 20-30 seconds before it went away. took them super long to diagnose and even longer to get the replacement. i think they replaced the radio unit.
looks like no one knows where the recirculation trap door is
