Unhappy

My AC on the sc blows out hot air whenever I turn on the AC. I had it recharged at a local shop and they did some testing with the volt meter and no luck. They think there is an electrical problem somewhere and before I send it off to Lexus I would like any input on this. It worked fine last year. I know I have a small leak but could that be the problem? Just refilled w/1 lb of r12 and still no luck. On top of that my passenger door no longer opens. Talk about embarassing the ^&$^$ door just quit opening last week. Any info on that would be helpful as well.

I had an almost identical prob with my passenger door. I noticed that it was hard as hell to open & upon closing, it wouldn't do so about 9 times out of 10.

I took a chance & gripped up on a bottle of WD-40 lubricant & sprayed that massive door hinge the SC's have. Immediately after spraying, the door literally flew open & closed as if brand new. Because of this, I then sprayed the other door & any other squeeking part or something that was giving problems opening & closing.........I'm happy to report "0" dor probs since then.

Hope that helps...I think the hardest part for you will be just gettin gthe door open to spray the WD-40. Sounds like your hinge has seized shut.

Hey man,
My ac is blowing hot too My problem is a little different though. My compressor locked up on me, so that's toast. To buy another is approx. $900 from Lexus, and ofcorse double that for labor. I have considered trying to buy one off a salvaged or wrecked SC300 or ES300 and save some money. I will do some research and see if any parts like this are available.

Scot,
There is a Lexus/Toyota salvage yard near where I live. If you want I can check there to see if they have any.

just for a comparison/reality check. Autozone sells the compressor for 330.00. And I am sure I can find it cheaper than that.

the reason why these compressors are so expensive is because they use an RPM sensor located within the housing. I recomend you search aftermarket for a similar unit. Mercedes Benz uses the same compressor on some models. I do not recomend a used compressor.

I have also called Autozone and some other, their price is $330 like you said, but it's been rebuilt, every AC mechanic I have spoken to says they have the remanufactured AC compressor units back for replacement all the time.

1stLexus,
that's great man, if you are ever out there, check and see if they have one that works and get the price for me, this is just the compressor I need as of now, not sure if I need any other parts as of yet.

Wink my ac blows hot air

Thanks for the replys everyone. There is a site
www.taprecycling.com that has a bunch of used stuff for lexus. I think I'm going to try that for some quotes on the compressor if needed. I think I will attempt to jump the compressor with some jumper cables to see if it is still good or not if it works then it has got to be one of the relays or pressure switch. Who knows but it's worth a shot before I send it to a mechanic.
I will tackle my ac and door this weekend and keep you guys posted if I get if fixed in the event that it may help someone else.
