Dealer Service Quote = Meaningless
Before I left the dealership, I asked for quotes for the work I was going to have done. I was speficially quoted, for parts and labor, with tax, $233 and change. When I arrived the bill was $249 and change. The kid at the checkout counter just kept staring at the papers and had no explanation. Besides feeling like a dope for paying those prices in the first place, I guess I've learned that asking for a price beforehand means absolutely nothing.

I definitely paid and walked. Took no cookies or beverages of any kind. It's not that it's only $15, I didn't ask for an estimate, I asked for the cost of the parts and labor, so I wouldn't be surpised when I returned. Rained on my clean car, too. It's like freakin Seattle around here.

sounds like your estimate was sans 7% sales tax
Whenever I request a price from my Lexus dealer, they exclude sales tax in the # since it's nothing they control and it must be added. Plus I'm sure it helps get more yes than no b/c it's a smaller #. It's not right since you asked for it w/ sales tax but sounds like that is the case none the less.

An estimate is an estimate and it is disclosed on the paperwork you sign. $15.00 is better than 150.00. It could have been worse.

I'm not talking about service where the work and/or parts needed is unknown until the tech gets in there. I'm talking about 20k service and a cabin filter. Is there not a set price for both of these? I was given one - tax included. I didn't know there was wiggle room. Hey, whatever. Obviously, the $15 was important to them, even after their ridiculous pricing. I still don't know why a car dropped off at 9am for the 20k isn't ready until the following morning either. Oh, and 2 chips on the car that weren't there when I left it.
