I have had this problem before as well. I would hear a clunk when turning and braking at the same time. The cheap easy fix for this was a brake fit kit. After this was replaced no more ghetto clunking sounds. Try this first before dishing out $$$$ not knowing if it will ultimately fix your problem.

Another GS here with a bad upper ball joint only on the driver's side. Sewell quoted me $270 for the left side only. I didn't know about the discount for the pair. And, like others have said, my dealership quoted me $500+ just for the part for the one side, plus installation, for a whopping $950.

Whenever I go up my driveway (I turn in to the left), my left side wheel hits first, and I hear a loud clunk accompanied by an uneasy shaky feeling in the front suspension and beneath my feet. I know you're supposed to do both sides at the same time, but my dealership says that the right side is fine, so I may just do the left.

Please post your results once you install the control arm.

Wouldn't the bushing kit from Daizen be cheaper?

I have the same problem. I feels like something is loose, but nothing is. So what's the verdict? Upper ball joint or brake problem?

Similar issue with my 02 GS300. Clicking noise when turning my wheel and then this creaking noise when I go really slow, especially bad when turning to the right. I feel like I am driving a Model T with this creaking noise.

I thought it was in the rear, but I had a friend with me today and she sat in the passenger seat and said it was definitely in the front.

Bringing it to the mechanic next week to diagnose. I will have ball joints and tie rod ends in hand along with rotors and brake pads.

Sure enough, 5 hours later they said the cause of the problem is all the aftermarket parts on the braking system. They said that the brakes pads are supposed to float a little bit, but what is happening is that one side is locking while the other is sliding. This is because the shim kit and fit kit, the rotors and the pads are all aftermarket.

Total cost for shim kit, fit kit, rotors, and pads...$750.00

They checked the door lock actuators too. I was quoted a price of $2,200.00 for all four doors.
So was it the brake issue? I have aftermarket pads and brembo rotors to.. Sometimes i think it is the brakes as well... Backing out of the driveway and braking while almost coming to a complete stop i get the pop sound also. I've started a few threads and mentioned the same thing over and over again and no one really has the right answer..

Maybe i should go back to stock pads and see if that fixes the problem..

I have EBC greenstuff and they have built in shimmies.. I also replaced the fit kit last year.

So, i wonder if its the pads. Maybe the EBC pad is to thick and not wanting to move. Its hard to beleive that my bushings are bad at only 62,xxx miles.
There are members on here who have no issues at all and change bushings out at 100k with no issues prior..

If it was the brakes than I'm going to replace the EBC and get some Akebono ProACT Ceramics and try those. Got a good price 70.00 shipped from Tirerack. They had some other Brands but many people seem to be happy with these..

same issue here, started today when turning left. i took my wheel off and noticed the right outer tie rod was leaking (could that be an issue?)....the lower ball joints were replaced 2 months ago or so......i did put after market pads and rotors...no clue as to what could be causing it.

Anyone ever find out what the issue was? My car has been clunking the last couple of weeks but yesterday it started creaking on slow turns. I don't believe its the brakes because I can get it to creak sometimes while parked.

I figure since my passenger side front tire is wearing unevenly on the outside of the tire (stock ride height) I should check my caster and lower control arm bushings.

And is this solution applicable to GS's? https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sus...em-w-pics.html

The bushing for the No. 2 lower control arm could be cracked. Check it out.

Back from the dead...same harsh low-speed creaking sound at suspension squat..no noise unloaded

98 GS400

New: :LBJs, Daizen bushings minus UCA bushings, UCAs, Outer Tie Rods, Coilovers, Engine/Trans Mounts

Old: Inner tie Rods. Sway bushings, Sway End Links

Car sounds like a clapped out Crown Vic with the creaking :/

Same problem but on an 2002 IS300. Car drove fine til my daughter practices her maneuverability test for her license. After 20 or so runs, creaking noise starts and gets progressively worse and then really bad.
I can eventually get it to creak while stopped and just turning the wheel back and forth.
Replaced lower control arms and lower ball joints but noise is still there. Tomorrow replacing outer tie rods. Not optimistic. Replaced sway bar bushings within the past year (but that was to solve a clunking noise typically associated with bad end links).
Spent 4 hours going through these forums. Lots of people with the same problem but no confirmed solutions (other than those I've already replaced) but lots of GUESSES. Very frustrating.
