New to the GS family!
Hi yall. Jibbel here, 25/m/st louis. Just got out of my corolla XRS and into a 2001 GS430 with 72k on the clock. Now I'm asking everyone to gimme some of your precious advice. Since I bought my GS, the first thing to do was obviously to get some new shoes: 18x7.5 BBS RK wheels all around (best way to blow $400 on craigslist ) with Falken Ziex ZE-912 all-season boots. Next I moved on to 18% carbon tint all around AND on top!
So what's next? Reading the threads... I know what all of yall are gonna say: LOWER THAT BABY! From the pic you can see I've got about a 2 inch gap so that's gotta go! But I'm torn. I have a LIMITED BUDGET to dedicate for mods, so do you think I should start by getting some Tanabe springs to improve the look/handling immediately, wait a while and do springs/struts together, or go the distance and get some Tein coilovers with the EDFC?
Next Q: I really really really want to hear the music that I know this V8 is capable of producing. So again, with a LIMITED BUDGET in mind, do you feel that a new air-intake would satisfy my hunger for a little noise? If so, would you recommend the weapon r, secret weapon, or injen intake? If you don't think this would have the desired result, should I bite the bullet and get a new exhaust instead? I'm leaning toward the Borla or Greddy because (plz correct me if i'm wrong) they give the car a nice quiet growl at low RPM, and seem to open up nicely at wide-open-hold-on-tight-throttle. Open to other suggestions for intake/exhaust too! My goal: maintain some semblance of quiet so I'm not annoying neighbors while parking the car and not giving myself a headache on an 8 hour highway trip, but audible orgasms with pedal mashed...
And lastly, I bought the car with no maintenance history. What things would you recommend I check myself? What things should I have a shop look at? Should I have any fluids changed or anything? I've never been a DIY car guy, but the forums seem to be invaluable for researching the DIY stuff, so I feel confident that I can tackle easy-moderate tasks with my limited tool selection and lack of a garage.
Thanks so much guys! And I apologize ahead of time for the dirty picture, but it just rained and my baby got all dirty again!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I have another question already too, my trunk is bald and I'm not a fan of the stock spoiler at all. $60 seems like a steal for a painted lip spoiler: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS...spagenameZWDVW
Can i get a thumbs up/down on this product? Or suggestions in general regarding this or similar products?

welcome to the family!
I say try to keep within your budget, and see if you can find some decent priced used coilovers in our classified section. I agree to try and get it right the first time, but that comes with doing the research and also being patient to buy the mods you want at the right time while keepin in budget. The good thing is that through a search of the forum, or even the subforums for the GS, you can get a wealth of information (and pics) to help you in your efforts.
Good luck with the mods, and welcome again

Wheels narrower than stock? Stock wheels were 16x7.5... Same width. I will say though, part of the reason I'm not looking into performance mods at the moment is because it's already got enough power to pulverize the rears as is. I wish I coulda gotten 19's staggered, but such is craigslist. Ya take what ya can get right? Besides, they look a hella lot better than the stock 16's, i felt like an old man driving around for a few weeks in a bone-stock GS!
BTW, what is everyone's opinion on the CAI/Exhaust as mentioned above?

OK, before I get flamed... Good call Cliffud! I was so curious I just took a tape measure down to the basement to measure the old wheels, 8.5 in wide! Probably the main reason I have no problem roasting the rear all-seasons Ahh the things we do in the name of style....
