Default New Here - Some Questions

I’m new here and been browsing around for the last few days trying to find as much info as possible. Didn’t see a newb section so I figured id post here. Anyway I just picked up a 06 GS 300 a couple of weeks ago and I must say it’s a big upgrade from my previous car. I’m fairly handy and knowledgeable when it comes to car things, however this is my first Lexus so bare with me. I do have a few questions that im concerned about. If they belong in a different forum, my apologizes. I figured it dealt with the 3rd gen so it might be best asked here.

Lowering – I noticed that the Tanabe springs and Tein springs are a popular choice here. Do the struts/shocks require upgrading when lowering? I know my previous car could not handle any type of drop be it even 1” without needed up upgrade struts. I want to make sure to do it right the first time.

Wheels – I noticed that some of the GS’ have 22s on them and I noticed some are lowered and say they have no problems with rubbing at all. I was curious if there is any modifications needed to make 22s fit (ie roll fenders, remove liner, trim brackets, etc…)? Also since my car is the AWD version I know a staggered setup would not be recommended but what would a typical width and offset be for the AWD GS for 22s or 20s?

I did search a bit but didn’t find much out there (maybe I was searching in the wrong forums). Anyway if this is something that has been repeated a lot, please forgive me. If you could post up a link that would be great.

lowering - popular doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. you will wear the shocks faster. personally i think the car is still relatively new to see the effect of springs on stock shocks. do it right, get coilovers. unfortunately for awd i have yet to see something "official" for the car

wheels - 22s lowered and no rubbing, that has to be tremendous amount of fender work. staggered is ok on awd, you just have to do it right and make sure the overall diameters are close

I agree with Romini. Go with Teins CS coilovers however I would wait until they make official coilovers for AWD, unless you want to deal with all the vibrations. Good Luck with the modding.

P.S. You made the right choice by going with a Lexus tho =)
