17801-46080 - air filter
90915-YZZD1 - oil filter V6
90915-YZZD3 - oil filter V8
90915-20004 - Genuine Toyota OEM Japanese V8 filter - *Comes with the car when it arrives from japan. Its supposely a much better oil filter. Conventional filters have a paper element in them. The 90915-20004 has no paper element just resin type filtering medium only.
They're hard to find and cost alot more than the average filter...
Price: $ 12.79 for one.

here's a comparison to a regular filter...

I have an 02 GS300.
So since the 20004 is for the japV8, I should not use it on my car? Or does that matter, because I was told that the yzzd1 is made in Taiwan and not original denso. Is this true and if so then what would be the denso part number? I want to purchase the better of the two and the only number that referenced the YZZD1 is the 20004.
Any input or help would be appreciated as I am a newb. ha

If you look at a lot of filter application charts, the oil filter for all the lexuses often ends up the same, es, is250, 300, gs300, gs430, ls400,ls430, sc300,sc430 ALL have the same oil filter part number. Oil filters are not so custom made or a precision unit that it's designed just for 1 car or application nor are they that special.
So, I wouldn't get so caught up in thinking buying this expensive filter with the thought that expensive is better. You should also remember this filter is a design and manufactured over 10years ago.
There are plenty of aftermarket filters such as from mobil1 or purolator with the newest in nano-fiber material, which if you buy into the hype, is higher tech than this 10year old design.
I buy whatever is bundled in the oil-change special. Or will go with either the $5 toyota filter; or a pureone from amazon.
I wouldn't stress over it, and what I do is just get any decent filter that fits.
You are better off stressing over your oil choice, as if you have a good oil, then the filter won't have as much work to do.
(What I do on is just buy whatever full synthetic oil that is on sale and of the latest API service level).
The catch-22 is those that are oil/oil filter stresser are the ones who need it least. Chances are you are going to be changing the oil regularly, so having the fancy filter is not needed anyway.

No you can still use it, and there is plenty of space in the gs300 for a larger filter to fit.

Thank you! I am frugal and certainly not the "more expensive is better kinda person". ha (college student) I was just reading around and noticed that there were a lot of people talking about this subject and was confused on why it was so important? I have had my mk3 supras for years and done normal oil changes on them (same oil filter as the gs300) using just whatever is on sale. Never had any issues since I change mine frequently. I just have never had a 2J before and was curious if there was some reason the oil/filter topic was being discussed with so many different inputs. I've learned everyone has their own stubborn theory on oil changes though.
You answered my question (politely) so I appreciate that. I will just continue to use my normal syn oil and filters.
