I read it in the owner's manual, and it is amazing how much difference it makes on a hot day. I would now hate to have a car without it. I've got black on black which I was afraid would be too hot (South Carolina). Bu being an engineer, I did some research with good instrumentation and discovered that there is only 3-4 degrees F difference on seat temperature between light paint/seat colors and black. On a hot day I was reading the lighter seat surfaces (new cars in the dealer lot) at 123 degrees and the black seats in black cars at 126-127 degrees. Probably not enough difference to tell blindfolded. However, with the auto window & roof open, I press it as I walk out of my office, and by the time I get to the car, it is actually not uncomfortable. No one told about it me before I bought the car (1-1/2 years old) either.

make your car into a humidor!!
I live in Arizona and for those of you who know AZ's reputation for being a 'hot' state- it surely lives up to it. lately i've been keeping a small bottle of water in the rear arm rest. i keep it uncapped and when it gets hot inside- the water evaporates into the cabin. it keeps the car a little more manageable and it's a little humid when you get in but it sure cools off quick.
I'd think that this would actually be beneficial for your leather too- it'll keep it from drying out so quick.
(i could roll down the windows but it would just let more hot air into the car.)

I rather wait a few minutes for the car to cool off and pamper the leather every now and then than to take a chance by introducing all that humidity inside the car. I'm sure there are long term consequences. MHO.

just an update on the water bottle experiment...
I've been doing the water bottle thing for the past week. There don't seem to be any side effects to the humidity in the air. I can't imagine the humidity of a little water evaporating into the cabin exceeding the humidity you'd find in the southern states, GA, FL, LA...
Just a tip though, if you do decide to do the water bottle thing, (naturally) you might not want to use a full water bottle... just a 1/4 full.

Too bad you don't have the feature to close the windows with remote in North America.
It sure is a handy little thing in the summertime.
It's about 5 secs with my remote to open or close the windows and sunroof.
