Default 2013+ water pump replacement

Hi all. With the new model buying built on the Avalon platform, is it still astronomically expensive to replace the water pump? I know on the last body style it required removal of the engine (but not on other models such as the RX and IS). I ask because it may be a dealbreaker for me will all of my commuting. Thanks!

Who said replacement of the water pump on the previous ES required removal of the engine?

It's pretty well known for the 2007-2012 models. Mine was an 07 and I had Lexus replace the water pump as they already had the engine out for other warranty work (oil leaks). Most people reported a $2100+ repair bill if theirs went out and wasn't covered under warranty.

I also had a 2010 ES, you absolutely do not need to "remove the engine" to replace the water pump. They may have done it while your engine was out because it was easier, but it does not have to be removed to do the job.

I would be very surprised - and disappointed - if removal of the engine was required.

And of course I can't find a single thread right now about it lol. But I know I've seen several including screen ****s of the actual service manual. I'll keep checking for it though.

I searched the forum just to be sure I wasn't crazy, the engine does not have to be removed. One guy had it done for 900 bucks.

Just because some dealers say the engine has to be removed, (if they even say that) doesn't mean the engine has to be removed.

I found a few threads talking about it. Hey- I'm not a Lexus mechanic. I'm just going by what I've read on this and other forums. I was just wondering with the new platform change if changing the water pump was less expensive than the previous model.
