If so, what year is your LS460 and at what mileage was the water pump replaced? I'm at 105K in my MY2011 and planning to do some 3-4 day road trips in the near future so I'm thinking about having it replaced BEFORE disaster strikes.

I replaced mine and did a DIY with photos, which you can find in the FAQ's. Mine started leaking at about 60k miles. Fortunately, these pumps seldom catastrophically fail. They will usually weep for a long time before failing altogether. If you can see the pump (after removing a few engine covers, you can look for chunks of pink solids somewhere around the pump. As for pump prices, they are cheap if you avoid the dealer. I got mine for about 50 bucks and it came with a lifetime warranty. Labour should be no more than a couple of hours. It took me about 2 hours, but I replaced the hoses as well. It's an easy fix.

This is great to know....thank you. Does the leak actually come through the bottom engine cover so you can see the radiator fluid on the ground or do I need to pull the top engine covers off to look?

If the leak is significant enough, you could see it leak from just about anywhere. However, if you remove the engine covers, you'll get a good look all of the pump. That's where you'll see the crustaceans that look like this:

Replaced twice. Once 70k and again at 95k miles.

Paid extra for OEM parts the second time around. Mechanic said the cheap seals were leaking.

same here, DIY replaced the water pump, hoses, belt, and radiator at 60k miles. Took me 8 hours. Not hard just lots of work, around 10 bolts on the water pump.

Why not? Many members never replaced theirs. Might have been a bad batch or lack of proper maintenance, etc. Enjoy your good fortune.

Texas008: 8 hours?? You must have really been taking your time. I'm not a mechanic and I don't think replacing all the hoses belt pump and rad took me more than 3 hours or so. I was done by lunch time. No criticism here, i'm just wondering.

might be ~6 hours, i was taking my time.
I bought the no-brand radiator on ebay and the tab does not align with the radiator bracket, so I have to cut and drill the tab to fit it in.
I also removed the front bumper to have easy access, which turned out to be unnecessary. Therefore i spent quite a lot of time
now after 3 years and 50k miles, the reservoir tank needs to be filled half quart of coolant every 4 months.
might need to replace radiator again. this time I bought the OEM radiator.
