1997 3ES Transmission
SO recently my transmission completely failed me. Everything even park became drive. I went to my mechanic and got the tranny replaced for a pretty hefty amount. It's been driving great until recently. Theirs been a whistling kind of whiring noise coming from the engine. i figured it'll be okay for a week or two until I could find time to take it to the mechanic. Well now its totally dead. Whenever it tries to shift gears now when doing so the whole car will shake and then when it finally gets into gear itll dart super fast until it needs to be into the next gear. Reverse and Neutral work perfectly fine. Is it a faulty tranny thats the problem again or? I need advice. Should i get a new tranny or should i just get a new car? the cars at 260,000 miles. Oil changes every 2500 miles and maintenance always done on time.

I think it depends on how much the cost of fixing your car will be and if thats more than the value of the car. Personal decision for you.
By the way, get more than 1 estimate before you decide.

Well if you can find a doner car (an ES300, Solara or Camry) for cheap and ask a shop to swap it (or possibly DIY) it'll be worth fixing.
If your car is in poor shape and needs other work (suspension, brakes, etc) then I'd say sell it as is and cut your losses. Investing $1500+ for a rebuilt tranny in a car this old is too risky.
