Default VCS/Track Off/Engine check light with P0500

Almost a week now, my ES330 (2005@120K) got VSC, Trac Off, Check engine combo on my dash. So far, I changed the gas cap and reset the code a few times and still get P0500 – Speed sensor malfunction A. Everything is working, but I got only about 200 miles for the last fill up. It is very painful when I need to drive around 300-350 miles every week. Usually, I got around 300-320 miles for a fill up before I got empty light. Transmission and ABS are a bit unusual, chock up/slip/weird after getting light on my dash. No problem to drive 60-80 on free way.

Any advices would be great? I don’t want to jump in and change the two speed sensors right away. I may need to find, take off, clean, and inspection first.

Two weeks ago, I dropped a small wrench (#10mm) between engine cover and air box; and I did struggle around, could not get it out, and left it there. Yes, I did have magnetic pickup/snake, but I could not find when I need to use it. No light or any notices for a week until this Monday morning.

When I did general checkup, cleaning, oil/filter/tires change, and top up fluids, and I did not see any unusual. But, first time to use Syn 5W20 from Syn 10W30 for every 5K miles. Everything is good except O2 sensors and spark plugs which I am going to change in Spring.

Go look at the speed sensor. I know this may sound very vague, but you need to test and see if it has a good connection with the computer, and whether the sensor itself is good. All those side effects are caused by it.

No more error on my dash after cleaning speed sensors ( dark green color with two wires under air box, black color with two wires under/next battery tray). I also disconnect all connectors under driver side and in glove box near ac air filter one by one and check/wiggle every pins. Clear error code and drove around for about 10 miles, so far so good and no light, no error code.

Almost a week now and still no code. I hope this solved the error code P0500.

I used box knife to scrap off any dirt to make the metal tip shine. Then I used fine sand paper (don't the number at least 2000) to smooth out, clean with shop towel and put it back.
