Default loose maf? or maf need cleaning?

hey guys,
im new here and just need some advise on what to do.
ive come to realise that there is something wrong the my maf sensor on the airbox. i noticed this when i pulled out the air box to check the filter to see if it needed replacing. after putting everything back together and starting the car it seemed like the engine was struggling to stay running. thats when i touched the maf and notice the engine running back to normal. so as the engine runs when i push down on the maf the engine sounds like its gona stall. im not sure if it just needs cleaning or if i need to either try to fix it or replace it. any1 have this prob please let me know.
oh ye this might seem very noob but how exactly do u you clean the maf?
ive seach on it and found a few threads but im still not sure how to do it.
theres no tutorial on it? :/ ohhh btw ive got a 96 es300 (windom)

cheers

bruce

Check the connector - might either be loose or have a broken wire.

i think it is loose but how do i fix it?
do i have to open up the whole thing?
the maf on my es300 has all these wires connected to it so i cannot just pull it out.
ill have to pry open it on the side where it is glued in. not sure if i should cause i dont want to brake it. :/

Try slightly pulling on the wires one at a time, and maybe you can isolate the bad wire. Most of the time, the wire will break inside the insulation right where it goes into the connector, and you won't see the break from the outside.

I had a cable going to the distributor on a 91 Dodge Dynasty that was this way - I dug into the sealant, stripped the wire, and resoldered it and put a piece of shrink tubing over it - the reseal it with RTV. (silicone - Room Temperature Vulcanizer)
