2003 ES300 Steering Clunking Popping Noise
I have a 2003 ES300. When wheel is turned all the way to the left or right while moving slowly I here a loud clicking popping sound coming from the driver's side wheel. I think its the universal joint on the axle making noise. This problem is also listed in the TSB's but I can't access the full description without paying. Does anyone know what is causing this? Your help would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Tom......

Introduction
Some customers may hear and feel a clunk, pop, or knock type noise when turning the steering wheel left or right. A new intermediate shaft has been developed to address this concern.
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2003 model year ES 300 vehicles.
^ 2004 model year ES 330 vehicles.
^ 2005 model year ES 330 vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

Warranty Information
Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint
Parts Information
Repair Procedure
Prior to removing the steering intermediate shaft, make sure the steering wheel and front wheels remain stationary. Once the intermediate shaft is removed, do NOT allow the steering wheel to spin freely.
For information on replacing the steering intermediate shaft assembly, refer to the Technical Information System (TIS): 2003 - 2004 model year ES 330 Repair Manual: Steering Column: Steermg Column Assy: Overhaul

Don't think it's the intermediate shaft
It only makes this noise when the car is in motion so if it was the intermediate it would make the noise all the time correct?

the intermediate shaft makes noise at all times, but more so when the vehicle is in motion.
it causes a dull clunking, popping and a binding feeling
a clicking type noise is usually a failed constant velocity joint

Thanks CorLexusES! For confirming what I thought was the problem. I found a rebuilt OEM axle for $80 bucks! $800 dollars cheaper than buying a new one from Lexus!! Appreciate the help I'll post an update next week to let everyone know if the axle fixed the problem.....
