I posted this question as a reply to a below post releasing official info that the ES350 will not see a redesign until the 2013 model (which I suppose can be an early release).

Question - why would Toyota release the redesigned 2012 Camry but keep the 2012 ES350 - which in all fairness is an upgraded Camry XLE V6 based on the old design with a later release date? Who would buy a 2012 ES350 under such circumstances? I suppose heads of Toyota know a lot more about cars than I do, so perhaps some explanation exists? Anyone? I ask as I was considering a new ES350 but don't want the old model after the new one is already the road with Toyota badges.

Thanks for any thoughts.

A lot of buyers avoid buying a car in the first year of a new generation to allow the bugs to get worked out. There will be some who really like the current gen and will want to get one before the changes. Also there will be some better than normal deals on the outgoing model.

Personally I'd wait for the new one if I were in the market. A new gen of ES always follows the Camry and Lexus seems to pull it off with no problems.

Some of the early 2007 ES350s had their share of bugs and issues - that being said I'd wait at least 6 months into the production run of the very first ES350 replacement vehicle whenever it shows up.

I believe lexus did the same thing with the Highlander and RX330 for 2003-4. Highlander came out 1 year earlier then rx if i'm not mistaken.

simple answer. Those who lease.. will get the 2012 ES350.

Exactly right MarkRivers - I lease and I will get what is available when my lease expires and hope for the best. If I were buying I would most cetainly wait a year.

Back when the ES350 first came out, my wife's boss got one. My wife told me about all of the problems they were having and it had to go back to the dealer countless times. I really thought this was odd for a Lexus (I didn't own a Lexus at that time).

Turns out the dealer wanted to make things right so they bought the car back and let them pick out an entirely new car. I'm sure that's an isolated case, and I'm not sure if the issue was the same thing or many different things. If it was the same problem over and over I think that falls under the lemon law.. but either way it was good to hear the dealer take care of them.

I am assuming that based on the pebble beach release of the new GS the ES will take some of the same styling . This would be the 2013 release.
